    Glen does it again:gnthb:
    Cracking shots, they won't be around for much longer, back to central Europe to breed.

    I have never seen one either, only Lesser and Woodchat Shrikes and abroad.

    What an interesting thread this is. Just catching up. I live in an urban area so don't have many 'good' birds coming here, although we do have sparrows nesting in our roof bits. I can hear different birds 'calling' cos we do have some fields around here but don't get to see them. Think they are goldfinches etc. Lots of collered doves andwood pigeons coming to drink though which is weird when you see the size of them compared to sparrows!
    cheers

    thanks all,:thumb: it was the first time I'd seen one also. Its been around for a week or so and doesn't seem to bothered by the heavy traffic or all the camera's, telescopes and bino's pointing at it!!

    Borrowers - you'd be suprised at the number of birds that can be seen in an urban area, I've had about 20-30 different types of birds in or over my garden this year and I live in a suburb of Sheffield, the nearest parks/woods/fields being a mile or so away. Even busy town centres have stuff to see, peregrines are nesting in lots of cities, black redstarts sometimes turn up, as well as swallows, house martins, pied wagtails etc. I'm sure newcastle isn't that different to Sheffiield, in fact I bet the proximity to the coast would be a bonus with the chance of sea birds etc moving up the river.

    I haven't spent a great deal of time up that way, having only had a brief visit for a wedding a year or 2 ago, but I wandered down to the river early evening, near that new bridge and there were rabbits hopping around the remains of Hadrians wall!! Keep looking!!:thumb:

    Borrowers I also live in an urban area (read Houing estate) although near the sea, so not in the country. I have seen many birds from my liiving room window, admittedly some in the distance over the reserve, so far 46. Keep looking.:)

    Editing back on-line again, so all birds updated as of this post. :)

    Glenw - brilliant Great Grey Shrike! I had no idea about this bird and had to look it up on the RSPB website!

    Photographic coup for the GC Survey! Thanks!

    Hi to Rosa and Borrowers! Don't forget, this thread is not just for birds not on the list already - photos welcome of birds already mentioned that you have seen too. Duplicates welcome :)

    Kath,can you accept this one for the list.Hubby and me went over to the RSPB headquaters at Sandy a few weeks ago and while in the hide had this Crossbill come down for a drink of water.Both of us took photos of it but alas as I pressed the shutter I got shutter delay:oops: so by the time I looked back at the photos I took it had turned it's head and then it flew off so Mr K is the only one who got a good shot.:D

    So even though this isn't my photo but Mr K's can you accept it for the survey?{pretty please}
