Can I just say a great big thankyou to everyone who has been contributing to this thread to make it what it is today - a lovely collection of birds with all your enthusiasm shining through.

I come back again and again to read it and it always gives me a smile. I hope you all enjoy it as much too.

All the best everyone and keep snapping those birds !

Out early to Lodmoor reserve yesterday morning and it was cold wet and windy. The birds didn't like the weather either so many were hidden. The Whimbrel was too far away for a pic.:(
No close ups and as it was so windy this was the best I could do.:)

Don't you just love it when a happy photographic accident occurs!? Very rare in my book, but for once something came together really nicely yesterday. I was walking through the woods at Stover Country Park and sat on a log for a bit of a breather and this little fella popped up. I have to say that I tried to take several photos of him but they were either all blurred because he hops up the tree so darned fast, or just pictures of tree as he hopped out of frame as the shutter went or when he was still, he was so well camouflaged he couldn't be seen...... Argh!

But this photo was a lucky snap - the sun came out and suddenly back lit the tree behind, thus forcing him out of his camouflage, he was reasonably 'stillish' so it wasn't too blurred and he had his beak away from the trunk so you can see its curvature.

Definitely a Carling Black Label moment!

Still a little out of focus but you can't have everything ....

TREECREEPER - doing what it says on the tin!

:) Thanks WOO and Robert - I feel I don't want to go anywhere without my camera now - even to the shops (you get lots of pied wagtails in Tescos car park!)

You never know the moment when something will turn up worth trying for and the pics make nice memories to file away on the computer.

I got a similar nice one of a grey squirrel by having a rest too - sometimes it pays not to be too fit and need lots of breathers :o

I'll pop the squirrel in the mammal survey. :)

PS Robert - your lady blackbird is certainly a beauty ! Love that first pic a lot.

Thanks Capney - it was on full zoom so at first I didn't notice what was in its beak until putting it on the computer. Another happy accident! :)

On the same day there was another little miracle going on in another tree nearby....
