Thanks Strongy - I've been having a lucky week.

On Thurday I visited Postbridge, on the moor and as I was photographing the old clapper bridge there these waggy's popped up - catching insects like mad so I guess they had young stashed somewhere near! :)

Thanks Peri - lovely comments - I'm blushing.

It was WOO who did the marvellous sparrows though chuck ! :D

I have been so fortunate with the birds recently. Seeing ones I haven't seen before or in a long time.

I think the more you observe them and look at them closely, the more you come to respect them as a species and love them for the role they have in enhancing our planet with their presence.

Hurry up and get your camera Peri so we can all share in your lovely bird walks too ! :)

This handsome fella was strolling along one of our Devon hedges the other day.

I wish they had more road sense though.

I guess they have other things on their minds this time of year....:o

I'm going to have to get a camera built in to my cycle helmet normally by the time I stop sort the camera they have gone, last week a pair of buzzards were circling a third entered the scene and a mid air fight started I stopped got the camera out they disengaged the interloper broke off and landed on a telegraph pole, I pedalled towards it in one hand I had the the camera trying to line a shot up whilst on the move and got some marvelous shots of the pole, how frustrating is that.
These are absolutely great shots you guys are producing, well done to you all.:gnthb:

Todays lucky chance bird at the country park was an elusive Jay - my gosh, for their size, these birds are scaredy !!!! Hardly stop in one place for a minute - but did go to ground for a millisecond to investigate the peanuts we had put there. Nabbed it then!!!!

    Cooling off

We found this finch on the patio on its back and with its legs in the air - and Oscar the cat was having a good look.

Mrs shiney took it indoors and gave it a remedy she mixed up

After about 5 minutes it started to recover and gradually improved

until it was ready to fly. It then flew to one of our trees, sat there for a couple of minutes and then went to feed from our bird feeder :yho:

Mrs Shiney is a wonder and they are EXCELLENT photographs Shiney! :luv:

Peri - Lucky you - I love South Africa! I only went once as a student but fell in love with the place.

I think there used to be a thread for Birds from the rest of the world but it must've got lost in the mists of GC time somewhere! (Roughly translated as I'm not very good at the search feauture on forums!!! ;) )

Beautiful photographs - thank you for sharing x

PS Was her pick me up juice the equivalent of a nice cup of hot sweet tea for birds! Seriously, was it just sugared water or has she got a special recipe ??

I have to confess I got these super close ups on the Jay,.... by having had no intention of photographing a Jay at all.

In our country park there is always a congregation of squirrels under an aerial walkway feature - a boardwalk where you can take a short walk at the level of the tree canopy. The squirrels are always scrabbling around under the sunflower seed bird feeder there on the floor below. Anyway - I took some raw peanuts to feed the squirrels with, hoping to get some cute shots of them, but the Jay must have been spying on me and broke cover to grab a beakful! It all took place in what seemed like a few seconds and I was lucky to get these in focus as it wouldn't hardly stay still and then was off again before you say 'cheese' :)
