Saw a threesome of them 'at it' on next door's roof but didn't have a camera in my pocket to take a pic of it for the what's buzzing/flying thread.

Loads of young blackbirds about in our garden, getting under my feet and flying within inches of me, one flew under my outstretched arm the other day. I have to cover boxes of apples ready for pressing or they'll peck at the top ones then poo on them.

You're not allowed to shoot them just for food, only if they're actually damaging crops (so get some brassicas in quick if you fancy some pigeon pie)

      Hiya Sheal.
There are a few cats around, but there were when we had lots of birds. We don't allow our (now one) dog into the garden (apart from the patio), no change there. We have feeders out there, and for a period they would always come and take their fill - now untouched. I guess it's as has been suggested, nesting season over.

      Cheers...Freddy

Sparrows and starlings abound here at the moment, the starlings destroy a fat ball in about 10 mins.
        Loads of youngsters still.
Sparrows empty the seed feeder as fast as I can fill it.
See the occasional robin, but that's about it

          Dawn chorus finished around midsummer.
The "blessed" seagulls create a racket at all hours of the day and night.

It's been a little quieter here as well, I think some of the migrants are heading back home as well? Certainly the swallows seem to be fewer in number

It's quiet here too, nothing like the variety of birds we had last Summer, no Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Siskins, even Dunnocks are absent. Just 20 or so Sparrows, one Robin one Blackie and Stogies.
Swifts have gone but Swallows and Martins haven't started gathering yet, some, could be here until late October.

The starlings are permanent around my garden all year round but as autumn creeps in - as of now, the numbers start to build usually around a hundred settling on the overhead cables that run through my garden. They also make good use of my bird bath although I don't feed them or any birds because of to many predators. Chaffinches disappear late spring and return autumn, they appeared last week which is a sure sign of early autumn. Let's hope we're not heading for a prolonged winter beyond that!
