Any of you old enough to rememember children's television on Saturdays? Whirligig with Humphrey Lestoq, Mr Turnip and Colonel Beetroot - Hank, Mexican Pete and Big Chief Dirty face? Alternate week it was Saturday Special with Peter Butterworth and the first TV slot for Harry Corbet and Sooty.
See them all at this wonderful TV nostalgia site:

Does anyone remember a kids game show that used to be on BBC2 on Saturday afternoons about 4pm?
It was based in an alien place where three guests - a celebrity, a viewer and ?someone else(can't recall who!) would be given clues to work their way through this building to get to the end and the prize. Sometimes they were riddles, sometimes mathematic puzzles, sometimes an invisible floor pattern to work out.

The moderator was a (supposedly) resident alien, a nice looking girl who would pop in on them occasionally and tell them if they were getting off track. In the 'entrance hall' she had a friend that was a great big fern kind of plant that would shake and go "ooogle ooogle ooogle" when she spoke to it. It could also tell her if something was going wrong.

I used to love this - it was heaps better than Countdown!

yes! Don Lang and the Frantic Five

"Coal in the boiler, burning up bright,
Rockin' and a rollin' through the night.
Here the whistle blowin'eight to the bar
Now the trains a slowin - can't be far.
Over the points, over the points, over the points"

They don't write them like that any more!

Sorry, was on holiday during the above discussion ;)

MD and Liz: Compulsive listening at 6.45 everynight - Dick Barton Special agent with Snowy White and Jock. until the news at 7 oclock.

DaveW: Yes, the Light, Home and Third Programme, Wilfred Pickles I think must have been a forerunner to modern documentaries. Journey into Space, what can you say? Real life space travel and subsequent fiction have never really equalled that IMHO. But then I was just a teenager and wouldn't appreciate it the same now?

Hornbeam: Too many youngsters on here :D I need your help, can just remember Tommy Handley - can I do you now sir? - Mrs. Mop - (but it's a bit vague) Have I got all that mixed up? ;)

Liz: you got me wondering about Whitey, so I looked it up on Google:

    http://www.seniorsnetwork.co.uk/reminiscence/dickbarton.htm

    BBC's first daily radio serial!
I knew it was popular, but 711 episodes? How did they do it?

Saw the films on Saturday Morning Pictures and scared the hell out of me, can still remember it now! :D
