Hi Kandyfloss, mine sets seed like mad and as you say much easier germination than spectabilis. I don't mind it spreading itself around, but I'd like some flowers first. Does yours set seed and produce new flowers as well?

Hi Liz.I have never found any seed on mine.Whether it does it when we are not looking, but I tend to split mine up,which I find very easy to do,then I pot them up for a few weeks to get established before planting out in the garden.

I will go and check mine now, because at the moment mine are full of flowers.

I am going to give all my others a good feed as they are now dying back so that they can build up a good root system, before they vanish for good.

I feel cheated in a way, because I have now to wait another 12 months to see what becomes of them.

Liz, there are lots of bees round them so I will see what happens. They probably set the seed and drop them whilst we are away on our holidays.I split mine in the spring as they are coming into growth

Nature doesn't know the meaning of holidays

Bought my Dicentra spectabilis almost dried up in a poly-bag at Homebase. Now in its third year it flowers away for weeks and after I cut it back it flowers again. Planted in shade under tree in deep soil which is relatively sandy.

It looks like 'lady luck' haas something to do with this.....

Chobart, when you say cut it back - by how much? Deadhead or a really serious haircut.
