I just love it and especially the orangy roses.

BTW, I found that Acer I asked you about, Acer shirasawanum "Aureum", in a catalogue here but the price put me off. ââ??¬52.50 upwards for a 30-40cm container one, is that normal?

Yes Englands it is me hearty :D

Hi KG, did I tell you it was Acer shirasawanum "Aureum", or did I forget to look it up ? My short term memory is lost

That is the right one and it cost me £13.99 about 6 years or more ago. I had it potted for a time and then 2-3 years ago it went in the ground and has grown about twice its size. I don't know what the conversion is but you would be looking at a figure of around £30+ for one like mine. When I bought it it seemed to be one of the more expensive varieties ?

BM, I saw the name in the catalogue with the picture. If you did send me the name, then I missed reading it (blush).

If I have converted correctly, then the one here costs 35 UK pounds (sorry, no pound sign on my German keyboard), and yours cost ââ??¬18.66 when you bought it. Soooo, never buy such in Germany!!! How big was it when you bought it and how big is it now, looks a good size.

It was very small when I bought it, I will try and find a picture to scan as it was pre digicamera. I suppose it is about 30"+ now although it grows under the bloodgood so I trim it so that it stays around its skirts. It is also in complete shade and growing next to a number of other trees. It is not under stress but it certainly isn't spoilt in terms of soil and position. It is one os the nicest ones I have come across and the lime and purple work well. I think if you invested in one with a nice form it could make a nice lawn specimen in time. You need to come to bedfordshire again, there are loads of garden cenres around my/your relatives.

I'll think about it, but it one in the lawn here is not feasible.

In the back garden they aren't a real problem. I go out at night after a good watering and pick them up, put them in a bucket and then into the green bin. I picked up (no kidding) 50 snails the other evening from the front garden ! Hedonistic snails don't care whose watching their antics. They love to hide in the pachysandra but seem to migrate to the pavement when it is wet which is where I pick them up from ? My wife does indeed spoil me ;) cough' new scooby 'cough [IMG]

Your garden is absolutely inspirational! I keep seeing tree ferns in the gcs and think how good your garden looks, and am almost tempted...
