    Hi Hel,
Wow, what a lot of hard work you have both put in. It's great that you both do it together!

The waiting lists here for allotments are several years so I don't think I will ever have one.

Everything looks so healthy too. As you say a world of difference between picking your own produce and buying the stuff from the supermarkets. At least you are the only one to have handled it.

    WoW!

I was going to say "You must know your Onions" but decided that would be too corny :)

    Thank you John and Kristen.

John not only will Bob, the boys and I be fed well this year but most of my lovely neighbours too, one old dear watches out for us to inform us how she enjoyed the cabbage and leeks last year..... I'm sure she's dropping some huge hints!:D

Kristen you be corny all you want sweetie we've got a patch of that in as well and we even remembered to block it ..... see we're getting clever at this allotment game us you know!:hehe:

Bob's seen a couple of guys on the committee and asked why two overgrown plots near us haven't been taken yet if there's six people on the waiting list they should have been taken by now their simple answer people are not prepared to take them on 'too much hard work' they want plots with little or no work to do.

Well Bob's asked them what do they think if we take on one of them but only if no one else is prepared to take it on within the next couple of months instead of giggling (which is what they did when they offered our very first plot to us) they said they don't see why Bob couldn't have it.

It's a big step taking on yet another one but I'm coming around to the idea as I would like the bottom half of this new plot to try and grow some heritage veg. or have a kitchen garden.

What do you guys think are we being greedy taking on yet another plot? Hel.xxx.

"What do you guys think are we being greedy taking on yet another plot"

I thought you were mad the first time around, so I'll just sit still and keep quiet this time!

    "or have a kitchen garden"

What's that then? (Silly me thought that growing veg on an allotment was the same as a kitchen garden )

    Hi Hel,
I don't think you are greedy at all if the allotments are for the taking. I think it's great that people are returning to growing their own food.
My sister in law is on a waiting list here for an allotment, they told her it is a 6 year wait, she will be too old then :hehe:
When you say kitchen garden do you mean herbs etc?
The big houses and halls used to have a kitchen garden. Very posh.

"My sister in law is on a waiting list here for an allotment, they told her it is a 6 year wait"

I read that phoning every week to ask what the status of the list is, and emphasizing how they will look after their plot, helps move up the list.

Walking round and photographing, and reporting. the abandoned plots may help too :D

Kristen Geoff Hamilton did a wonderful kitchen garden series and planted a great deal of plants into a small-ish space since then I have always wanted a proper kitchen garden and I would love to have a go at one like his with Heritage vegetables.

Jazmine if the site where your sister is after a plot isn't a council run one she can always 'jump the queue' so to speak just by going down to the site regularly and making the people down on the site see that she is indeed very eager for a plot.

Some site are wary of newbies as sadly quite a few of them say they want an allotment and work it for a couple of weeks then give up on it!

Being a little flirty works well too or at least it did for me either that or 'they' thought she's a cheeky mane lets give her a plot as far as away from me as possible! :flag::D Hel.xxx.

    Thanks Hel and Kristen.
At the moment she is using the veg plot at my inlaws - why didn't I think of that?
Keep us informed how it is going, I can enjoy other peoples even if I do not have my own! :)

Hi all yes it is true Bob and I have taken on yet another plot the committee refused to offer the plot to anymore people as the few who have viewed it simply said 'No way!

Within a few short hours later Mr.Strimmer Man (aka Bob) had cleared the lot now all we are waiting for is a couple of really dry days for a Pyro Party!

Also we are enjoying the fruits of our labour from our first plot as our Japanese Onions are ready yummy, yum, yum! They are bigger than what they appear in the blue crate honest! Hel.xxx.

    Hi Hel :)
What a challenge, that looks more like a meadow than an allotment but with your enthusiasm and determination I'm sure it won't be long before it is looking good :gnthb:

Keep the pics coming. I love to see the progress and dream on myself!
