Glad it all went well for you @Trunky, and nice that you seem to have really good neighbours - mind you, they will almost certainly be thanking their lucky stars that they now have you and Mrs T as neighbours!

One of our neighbours across the road is moving in a couple of weeks, and of course we are now wondering who we will get moving in, and of course what they are like - let's hope we get neighbours like you!

Found time to take few photos around the garden this morning. I'll post them on here and give you all the guided tour when I've got a bit more time.

In the meantime here's a little taster, taken from the upstairs window, where I can look out over our new garden and the countryside beyond, while keeping in touch with all you lovely people here on GC. :)

              Hi Trunky,

I somehow missed this thread  (I blame it on being :old:) :heehee:

We wish you great happiness in your new home :grphg:.

It's looks as though you have a good garden and we're pleased to hear the neighbours are nice. :blue thumb: (I can send you 'nasty neighbour' if you like :snorky:. He comes from Ipswich :hate-shocked:)

No thanks Shiney, we had some of those at the last place. One of the reasons we got out of Ipswich.

Thanks for the reminder Bee, location changed now.

All the neighbours we've met so far here seem very friendly. In addition, the fact that we've moved back into the village where I grew up, about a mile away from my childhood home and literally a stone's throw from my old village school (I can see it from my back garden), means I really don't feel like a 'newcomer' at all. :)

That's because you are not a "newcomer" at all ... you are a ... "returner" (my village is full of "returners" ... which simply amplifies my position as a newcomer  :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I think we've just been able to be classified as no longer newcomers to our village. We've now been here 45 years :blue thumb:.

Well, we've been here two weeks now, so it's about time I let you all have a peep at the new garden.

It's a well established garden, with quite a 'rustic' feel to it. There are plenty of established trees and hedges, the rest is mostly down to grass with a few other random shrubs dotted about.

Not much in the way of flower borders, but I can work on that as a long term project. I'm going to follow the time honoured gardener's maxim of giving it a year to see what we have and find out what works and what doesn't as the seasons progress.

Overall view of the garden, from the upstairs window. It's south facing, sloping gently away from the house and about 30/35 yards in length.

                              DSC09683.JPG

The gate at the side if the house has a lovely fragrant Japanese honeysuckle next to it (and beginning to scramble over it), then the first sight which greets you is a big, ugly conifer which you have to negotiate you way past to get to the back garden. Think that might have to go next year.
                              :psnp:

                              DSC09705.JPG

                              DSC09704.JPG

The conifer is also surrounded by several clumps of pampas grass, which you have to squeeze past on your way through - think they might have to go as well (not looking forward to that job :rolleyespink:).

                              DSC09693.JPG

The first section of the back garden is mainly down to grass, shrubs and small trees. There are two large wisterias, one scrambling over an archway and tree house, the other now simply a large 'bush', originally planted to cover a small wood store which it has now completely engulfed.

                              DSC09685.JPG

                              DSC09695.JPG

                              DSC09697.JPG

Through the archway is another, smaller section of garden, surrounded by mature hedges and quite densely planted with various trees and shrubs.

                              DSC09701.JPG

                              DSC09700.JPG

This lovely, rambling old hedge runs up one side of the garden and is at least 130 years old. I've looked at old ordnance survey maps of the site going right back to 1884 and it marks the line of an old field boundary.

                              DSC09703.JPG

One nice feature is this old style water pump near the back door. It's a working pump too - the previous owner was a retired plumber and has rigged up a system whereby the rainwater from the house is collected and stored in three large tanks, which provide the feed for the pump.

                              DSC09687.JPG

The front drive, fairly narrow but a decent length, which does make the house a little more secluded. The hedges belong to the neighbours on either side, one is a strange mixture of thuja and beech (never seen that before) and the other looks like it was originally planted with red-leaved prunus, which has now been invaded by hazel, some mahonia and one sycamore (which I might suggest to the neighbour, in the friendliest possible way, needs getting rid of :heehee:).
Since both hedges belong to the neighbours, my only job will be to keep them cut on our sides.

                              DSC09708.JPG

That's it for now, I'll try to post a few more photos when time permits. :)
