Thanks for the seeds Strongylodon, received them today.
Think I'll get them planted this weekend as the greenhouse is gonna be the only place to be if the forecast is correct!

Remember to sow thinly, do not cover the seed with any soil, compost or vermiculite, just place glass or plastic over the top. There should be enough to try later sowings. I presume you have some heat, a propagator or something. [IMG]

    Hi
Lady of Leisure that picture is smashing.
I bought a Bottle Brush plant last year and it was lovely. It is about a foot high and across.

However now it is all sort of curled up and the foliage have gone really light in colour. Is this normal in winter or should I have done something before winter to protect it? It looks like it needs a good feed with something and maybe it has been too cold and windy for it.

    Thanks
    Debs

pete, I don't know where the duthy park thread is but here are some photos I took in New Zealand

They are of two trees of the metrosideros family that look similar and look very much like the bottle brush plant.

This first one is called 'Pahutukawa' commonly known as the New Zealand christmas tree as it flowers at Christmas and is mainly in the north island. The second is a species of the Tree Rata that is found more commonly on the South Island.

The Rata has a more delicate formation of leaves and flowers but both are stunning when seen en masse.

The only place I know in the UK where they are fully mature is on Tresco in the Scillies but I don't think they flower like those in Shiney's pic.

Those are just beautiful, shiney, and look quite old as well.

I noticed this morning that my C viminalis is starting to open ...

... and the C 'Flaming Fire' is really going into fire mode (no brushes just coloured leaves several times a year) ...
