    It is really called learning
When a child my Mum and Dad bought a house (mortgage) all the money earned went to pay the mortgage nowt left
When a job needed doing, it was DIY or nothing, many failures but got right in the end, The hardest was sweating lead to repair burst lead piping in the winter
All done by my Dad whilst I "watched" and "Learned"
I can now turn my hand to anything and get it done right

My Friend same age 64 can do nothing
Reason, well his Mum and Dad were well off, his Dad worked all hours bringing in lots of money, he had no time to spare and could not do any DIY repair just called in a tradesman and paid out MONEY
Consequently my friend does not know how to do anything other than call in a tradesman

Great Oaks from Little Acorns grow, so anything the Scout movement can introduce members to do things for themselves can only be good no matter how small
