They are a waste of money as i make a loaf of bread every day it takes less than half hour to do ..And with all the modern yeasts available it soon rises and you can then bake it..Its easier to hand bake than wash machines up..And also it tastes better than the bread machine bread !! :D

Ooh I haven't got time for that though WF!! The good thing about the breadmaker is that you can fill it in the morning and put it on timer and then it'll be ready when you get home from work!!
I make cakes and pizza dough in mine too. The only thing is, if you don't want it out on show it takes up an awful lot of space in your kitchen cupboards

[IMG] I bake all my own bread.. Have done for 40 odd years...!!! I make traditional way as well as having a bread machine... Well my second machine now...!! It just depends on time really... I use the machine on busy days when I have to work or am out all day... Traditional method other days.....!!!! Excellent for dough when you are in a hurry, then all you just have to do is, shape it, 2nd rise & bake..!!!! [IMG] They are an excellent addition to the busy household...!!! :D [IMG]

When I get my new kitchen the breadmaker is coming out again. Has any one else found that they can be tempremental when it comes to flour? Mine won't have Hovis flour in any shape or form and produces heavy stodgy loaves that won't rise, but give it Sainsbury's own brand and it's trying to escape from the machine! There is a ciabbatta bread mix which is good in a machine and you can make 2 lots from 1 small packet, though I have to confess I tend to do those by hand.

I've had a very basic BM for about 2-3 years now and make (nearly) all my own bread. But I use it just to make the dough as I prefer convential shaped loaf. So I stick the dough in a tin and bake it in the usual way. My favourite 'recipe', if you like, is about ½ and ½ Hovis white and Sainsbury's organic whole meal. And I use 1oz cooking oil with the water. Sadly, if I want the toast I like, I have to buy a s/mkt tin loaf. Home made bread just doesn't toast right for me.

[IMG] They are very good things to have if you use them allot.. They can be picky about the flours.. I have found the organic flours are very "heavy" in comparrisson to commercial flours... Therefore you don't get a particlarly well risen loaf...
;) MD.. Using oil instead of butter in your recipe, will make a much firmer denser loaf.. Try using butter instead but chop it up & add it last, after the yeast... Should make nice toast then... [IMG] Bread machines can also sometimes be very tempermental about the way you load in the ingredients too..!!!! Love 'em or hate 'em I think for most people..!! ;) :D [IMG]

[IMG] Yes, it all goes in together, but I add my yeast last & that is when I add the butter... ;)
;) Yes I do use a blend of flours when usuing a heavier flour... Only way I found, not to get a brick....!! ;) :D

Guess what? Went as usual to Aldi today for weekly shopping, got to the bread machines counter, Mrs.DAG stopped and said, "Think I will have one of those again!"

"What about all that measuring out to do?"

"I will do that!" She said!

You lot are my witness! :D :D

[IMG] [IMG] DAG, join the good bread crowd. We are lazy and just use Aldi's brown or multi-grain mix, one half a pack at a time we find best for us, and add 3 soupspoons of caraway seed to it. I say "we" as t'other half is the breadmaker in our household. Enjoy!
