I have a Panasonic bread maker, bought for me 8 years ago and I still use it at least weekly. They are fantastic. The model I have is very easy to clean (just wipe and rinse the tin), and takes minutes to put on.

I don't mind so much having the same loaf again and again. At the moment I'm doing a basic white. I go through phased but I rarely make very 'exciting' bread. I'm a purist ;)

For a loaf of equivalent quality I would be spending much more than I do with a bread maker. The flour has no additives, no soya and I know what's in the bread.

I like being able to pile everything in the machine before I go to bed, and wake up to a fresh loaf. If I'm making by hand it takes at least half an hour longer in labour what with kneading, knocking back, proving and forming the loaf.

          Bread makers are ace.

Bread makers are ace. Couldn't agree more Reetgood.:dbgrtmb: Has anyone had a go at Paul Hollywoods Iced Fingers? Old fashioned style split buns, filled with cream and good strawberry jam and then iced with a hint of vanilla in the icing sugar. Its a lovely dough to work with when you tip it out of the breadpan. All shiny and silky and the buns are :wub2:

Jenny, I have changed the price and quantity of flour purchased on my spreadsheet, and it adjusts the figures as per the edits in bold below:

My last 16kg Norfolk Malted Crunch from Heygates (the millers) was £18.50 and I'm sure it will be quite a bit more than that the next time I order one.

I'm not sure I should....my boyfriend still curses the day I showed him the 'pizza dough' cycle on the bread maker. For a man who doesn't really cook this discovery was a slippery slope. Apparently I am an evil temptress. Introducing iced buns into the home would probably seal my evil temptress reputation ;)

                    Hi chums.

Without trawling through this whole thread, does anyone have a good recipe (mix) for consistent white bread? We've tried it in the past using 'normal' ingredients, but the results have been variable. We find that the bread 'mixes' seem to work best, but they are a bit expensive, at around £1 per bag/loaf.

You're right Moyra. :) I'm wondering how long it will be before it gets moved into the Recipes forum.

Yes, I'll definitely be going for the Panasonic, but I've had to put it on hold for the time being. My 60 year old (electric) sewing machine has decided it needs a rest and given up on me this week, so it needs to go in for emergency surgery. :heehee:
