That's it, you've gone and done it.. I'm googling for one!
Just seen your post about cherry and marzipan cake and I love sundried tomato bread... nom nom nom!!!

Btw, see most of you have the Panasonic sd ones? And they knead the dough for you? And in all honesty, are the pre-made bread mixes just as good as making your own flour mix? Sorry for the q's

You put your ingredients into the pan (but, remove it from the machine first). Then you put the pan back into the machine, set the menu and then ... a few hours later: voila!

They should come with a health warning though:

Beware, users of these machines may be prone to weight gain

I only like one or two of the pre-made mixes (parmesan and sundried tomato being the bestest!) but in the main, I make my own.

My previous bread machine was a non big brand one and served me well for 11 odd years and I was used to making a large loaf in that one. Not quite as impressed with the XL loaves in the Panasonic so tend to make a medium sized loaf now. I'm still getting used to it :heehee:

Oh and that cherry and marzipan cake ... should have come with a double warning

Hahaha I'm so gonna gain weight with this machine :dbgrtmb:

I had a lil Google, so far have come up with a cheap and cheerful Cookworks one.. not particularly fussed on cookworks though but the reviews are not bad for the price also Russell hobbs and a Salter one for 44.99. Not sure if I wanna splash out just in case I'm useless with it!

                Very wise! :dbgrtmb:
My first one cost me £14.99 on the basis that it may just be a fad, or I may not like my bread cooked in a machine, or maybe Mr "M" was simply being tight at the time. Anyway, as I said, it was well used for 11 years and I was disappointed when it stopped working. So, Mr "M" said I could have a grown up one seeing as I'd used it a bit more than once or twice ;) :heehee:

Or, check out some of the charity shops which sell electrical items - you can pick up a bargain there @Linz plus help a worthy cause :blue thumb:
And if they are also selling digital scales ... walk on by! :nonofinger: :heehee:

Ah yes, EXACTLY! This is what I'm wondering will I get my money's worth or will I end up hiding it away, we do love fresh bread and I'm guessing it'll take a couple of goes to get used to it. That's a great suggestion.. Hopefully it'll be "cooked in" if u get me and a much cheaper way to get one. Thank you lovely :dbgrtmb:

Those are the ones that make it to the charity shops ;) :heehee:

Don't know if it has already been mentioned in this thread (and far too lazy to read back) but, the beauty of making your own is ... no preservatives in it; *you* control the amount of salt/sugar in the loaf and ... Bertie Bonus: you get fresh bread crumbs :hapydancsmil: I gather mine up, pop them in a freezer bag and store in the freezer for when I need them for a treacle tart, or to coat fish/chicken, make stuffing or even (shh! Don't tell The Family :mute: ) use them up to thicken homemade soups
Also, you know those recipes in older cookery books which call for "day old" bread? Homemade loaves are what they are talking about (not the pappy, spongy, stick-to-roof-of-your-mouth gunk sold sliced in shops).

Another thing (gosh, I'm on a roll! :roflol: ) when my lads were in Junior School, a big thing was made of them "making bread" - I was impressed! When I was in Junior School we made butter - it wasn't until I bought a bread machine that #1 son told me that is how *he* made bread at school  Anyway, my point is ... your little 'uns will love putting the ingredients in and then discovering the lovely loaf they have "made" a few hours later. Win-win! :dbgrtmb:

Love the disclaimer... you sure though? Not working for Allinsons flours or Kenwood? ;)

I did think they'd be the rubbish ones but if it's near a 10er I suppose it won't break the bank and I can have a little potch about with it and decide if it's for me :)

I love the thought of baking fresh bread, the smell, the fuss, lots of salted butter (won't be churning that myself though!) and letting the kids have a potch with it, Isaac loves making cakes and Isobel loves bread and butter with everything :dbgrtmb: and I know what you mean with the slimy dough balls fake/kingsmill bread makes!

I can thoroughly recommend the Panasonic, at least the one I have, this one
As I said in a previous post, I used to have a Morphy Richards. It was ok with bread mixes, but quite poor when it came to using the basic ingredients. The Panasonic gives great results whatever method you use. It's all good :)
And yes, the machine does it all. Put the ingredients in, take a loaf out.

Thank you @Freddy, it looks an absolute beast and is a pretty penny too, so think that will have to wait untill I figure out a cheaper one.. but from having a look at the reviews, Panasonic ones have come out tops. :blue thumb:

The one I have is probably top of the range. The reason I went for it was because it has (among other things) a yeast dispenser. This automatically adds the yeast during the mixing process. This is absolutely not necessary, it's just for ease of use, and I had a few bob spare :) Much cheaper models are available :dbgrtmb:

Ahh I see, so I guess I'm opening up as it cooks with a cheaper one.. no probs

When I opened the page I saw raisin/nut dispenser and jam/compote mode too. Bet you can make some fun with that!
