Now my MP has quit his (minor) cabinet post over Brexit. He said................

"I had to think who I wanted to see in the mirror for the rest of my life. I cannot tell the people of WOxon that I support the proposals in their current form."

Sorry, but here we voted to remain! It clearly smacks of manouvering in the interests of his political career to me and as I have a meeting with him in a couple of weeks I shall be pointing this out to him.

What's his pension worth? Sounds like an opportunist taking the "high road" to golden parachute retirement. ..

bugger all I would have thought. He's only been our MP since the last election after our previous MP (who was also the Prime Minister) had a slight problem over some vote to do with Europe :heehee:

Actually, I think it was obvious from the start that what Trump says other people said is completely false and a fantasy, it's what he thinks they should say rather than what they actually said.:dunno: He's done that on so many occasions that it's predictable. NATO countries made it clear even before the meeting that they didn't like Trump or the way he operates. When he made the boast that he'd forced NATO to up their contributions the Media jumped on it just like he wanted, which didn't make it more believable.:wallbanging:

He says things for headlines back in the US. I don't think he gives a rats bum about the world as long as the American super rich get richer.

I am getting really hacked off with all this now - Greening calls for second referendum

Surely a fundamental part of the job of being an elected member is to understand how democracy works? Therefore, any elected member who does not have an understanding of how democracy works, should have their employment terminated immediately.

I think it is fairly obvious what she is hoping with the 3 options this time.
She knows the May deal is not what the "out" people want, it is also not what the "in" people
            want.
So the options are only really 2, no deal, or stay in.
Her gamble is that the "out" bunch will go for stay "in", rather than a no deal.

The Remainers have strung it out for so long they are hoping everyone is totally fed up and the vote would be a very low turn out, on the leave side.

Just as an afterthought, I see she is stating that it should be taken out of the hands of "deadlocked politicians"

A very strange thing to say, bearing in mind most of the delay has been caused by remainers wanting parliament to have the final say???

Constitutionally parliament has to have a final say on the final Leaving Act. If parliament rejects it then we leave with no deal.
In all fairness most of the delay has come from the tory in-fighting over the shape of Brexit. The governments majority is so slim that it is at the mercy of all of the members of parliament, especially their own and those of the DUP.

Very interesting that the Leave campaign has been fined for spending more than they should, yet nothing happened about Theresa May buying/bribing the DUP to allow her to form a government......

This country has strict rules about election spending for good reasons FC - look across the pond if you don't believe me!

If the DUP got a deal for their constituents then good for them. It makes a nice change to London and its feeder towns getting the money. Coalition governments are perfectly legal, perfectly acceptable and they're nothing new. I'm not a fan of her but there was nothing wrong in what she did.

No issue with funding going to where it is needed @longk, but not to put too fine a point on it, would they have secured that funding if they didn't form a coalition? No, I thought not - therefore the 'funding' awarded is nothing more than a bribe in my book, at best 'buying' their votes.

As for London feeder towns getting the money, I would love to know which ones! I am within the M25 and even have two London Buses routes within half a mile of my home, and yet I am currently engaging in battle with Surrey CC over the state of the pavements around here, many of which are in an unacceptably dangerous condition. My local councillor agrees that this is the case, and is currently trying to secure fairer funding from government.

Our council tax went up to £185 a month this year, and yet the roads are in a hell of a state, there is next to zip in terms of public transport supplied by Surrey, the pavements are shocking, schools are falling apart and pleading poverty, NHS services have been cut left right and centre, and social services/social care likewise.

As taxpayers, we are entering into a contract with the government and their councils, where we pay them in taxation and in return they supply services; only, they are in breach of contract, as those services are not fit for purpose in many cases.

Far too much money is being spent by self-serving politicians on arguing the toss - mostly about how to save their place at the trough. I for one am absolutely sick of it, and have absolutely zero respect or faith in any of them.
