Sorry PeterS if I sounded a bit harsh. That wasn't my intention and was not aimed specifically at you.

When I was a young man, I was unemployed for a while. I also had the misfortune of living on a rather rough council estate. I made it my goal to get out of that situation because I saw other entire families that seemed to get stuck in a rut for multiple generations. I vowed that would not be me and I worked so hard to get out of it. And I did. I built a good career and a decent life.

But I remember the stigma. I was a young unemployed man living on a council estate. I experienced stereotyping all the time. I got randomly stopped and searched by police on a regular basis and was frequently spoken too like I was worthless scum. I was all too aware that people automatically distrusted me for no good reason other than that I was a young unemployed man from a council estate.

I was lucky. With good people around me and a huge amount of determination, I stayed good throughout. I never resorted to breaking the law. But I can tell you in all honesty that not a day went by when it didn't cross my mind that life might be easier if I just did what people expected of me, and just made my money by illegal means. I figured if people think that if me anyway, what have u got to lose? I can't lose their trust or respect. I didn't give in. But I knew people at the time that had similar thoughts and just went with it.

That vote was completely brainless, in my opinion, pete, as when we leave, despite the best efforts of the "Remainers" to delay it and/or hold another Referendum until they get the answer they want, around March 2019 no final deal will have been reached by that date.:dunno::wallbanging:
The EU has already stated that Trade Negotiations will take several years after we leave the EU and that they will drag it out for as long as they can. So come March 2019 what is Parliament going to vote on? I guess what the "Remainers" are looking to do is interpret the "final deal" as whether or not the UK leaves the EU, by quoting paragraph 3 of Article 50 by trying to extend the UK membership for as long as they can.....

"3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period."

The "Remainers", with their own financial agendas, would like to see the transition period, after we leave the EU, take several years and want one of the conditions that the EU is trying to press on the UK is that during that period we remain subject to the EU laws. That is not what the UK Referendum decision meant, it meant we leave the EU completely, negotiate a Trade Deal over a "transition" period while not remaining subservient to the EU when doing so.
What amuses me is that the "Remainers" will, and still, try to undermine the result of the Referendum by saying "Well, the Referendum was only won by 4%, so it's not really valid". My thoughts on that is "just how many "hands up" does it take to win a vote?" The answer to that is just ONE.
I doubt very much if the referendum had gone the other way the "Remainers" would have mentioned the fact they would have only won by 4% but would have pointed out that 4% is 4% and the decision was bona fide and therefore irreversible.:wallbanging::dunno::heehee:

That is when democracy becomes a synonym of hypocrisy ;)
I recall being told once is it the minority who really hold the "power"; as the "Remainers" fall into the minority of *that* vote ... maybe their "power" should not be underestimated? :dunno:
What it really boils down to is: those in Parliament will be treading a very fine line between personal (financial) self interest vs The People and potential political suicide. They would have to be pretty convincing orators to do that and remain in a position of power. Surely to Goodness they must have learned *something* about the common man in recent years not to take them for granted? Maybe they never learned: "The higher you climb; the harder you fall"? Or is it: "Never make money your God"?
Numpty Turnips the lot of them! :snooty:

                  Resurrecting this,
Looking like the establishment will win at the end of the day.

I've said from way back, we will only leave the EU by name, but not in reality, the powers that be will never allow that to happen, too many out there that have something to lose and not prepared to take on a new challenge.

As with most things these days the minority will have the biggest say.

We hear a lot about how clever Boris is, under that stupid exterior,;) basically I think he is just that, a clown in waiting, but a prat that should be considered a liability.

I much prefer Moggy, he always seems to have a very good answer to any question that is thrown at him, and although he looks like something out of another time, he doesn't come over that way, when pressed.
