Murdoch is very much anti Europe and at the moment the EU is rather breaking his nuts over Fox with raids and an investigation.

Yep, I saw that as well - flesh eating zombies roaming the streets - deadly plague - eternal night - no food in the shops - declaration of martial law etc. etc.

Reality - EU produced goods will increase in price by an average of 4.8% - not so newsworthy. Cars will go up 6%.

Yes but Sky has tv stations in France Germany Italy Spain etc etc etc etc . Much easier to sell Sky tv to the Americans if the the complete Sky family is working in European jurisdiction.?

Actually it is newsworthy. Inflation is running low'ish at the moment as a result of
        • the cost of oil being slashed
        • low consumer confidence bringing about a reduced price structure
        • Property value increases declining rapidly
        • lower disposable income as a result of real world pay cuts
Whilst the last two factors can be relied upon for a while yet the first two cannot. We're a snidge away from inflation running away at a faster rate than would be comfortable. No deal could well be what kicks that scenario off. So it is very newsworthy.

All trade is easier under one jurisdiction!

We are getting all this talk at the moment about companies harvesting peoples information and using it regarding elections etc.
Isn't that what polls have been doing for years?

The BoE have been sitting on their hands, forever thinking/dreaming up new reasons excuses not to raise interest rates, and thus missed the opportunity to do so when oil prices fell, and they no longer have any reasonable means left to stimulate the economy if there's an economic downturn.

Ideal if we were self sufficient in natural resources for fuel and manufacturing materials but we're not. Worst of all, oil is traded in Dollars.

Yeah oil is traded in Dollars, we are always told that old chestnut when the pound is low.
                  Not disputing BTW.
But when the pound rises,...............suddenly it dont matter.;)

So lets say the pound was high, would that be good?
                  I doubt it.

                  We lose out whatever.
Always have done as an individual, doesn't matter if the country is booming, the little bloke just gets stuffed.

On the bright side, the government could help to stabilise fuel costs by giving up some of the eighty-odd percent tax........

Totally agree FC, most people do tend to forget that when we fill up the money we pay is mostly tax.
I think it about time we were all shown a break down of where our taxes go.

When you get your wages, it has already had income tax taken, then mostly everything you buy has 20% VAT.
                        Council tax etc.
When you boil it down the money that you have avilible to pass on, for goods and services, is only a small percentage of what you earn.

I've just got back from Germany. Petrol is around 1.42 Euros per litre (£1.27) but diesel is only 1.21Euros (£1.08).

Food in the shops was more expensive than here but don't know what it was like on the markets.

Their VAT rate is 19% (most of the EU is higher than our rate).
