What a load of tosh. The same old scare stories from the usual suspects.

The first article is from a pro European Union organisation so will be biased and taking orders from its Brussels bosses.
Published by Boomberg whos billionaire owner has stated in the past that he wants Britain to stay in Europe.

Second article published in an online subscription only service I dont subscribe to so cant comment on. But remeber this organisation was on the remain side in 2016 and has shown its stance so yet again biased.

The third one from the Bank of England. The man from Canada Mr Carney has a new scare story nearly every month. He has a scare story for any topic. The mans economic forecasts are worthless. Nearly all of them have been proven wrong.

And to quote anything from The Express a paper thats full of scare stories on a daily basis usually weather related granted is laughable.

There's no predicting the vagaries of the stock market and although the figures may rise it doesn't guarantee that the shares you are invested in are the ones that have gone up. :noidea:

In the long run shares always do well. In the short term they can be disastrous.

During times of low interest rates and fluctuating exchange rates shares tend to do better. Having said that, I reckon that a lot of the 'players' will be putting more money into cash deposits whilst Brexit and inflation are so uncertain.

Sit tight and don't worry. As long as you have enough income (pension) and capital to live on then just continue to be pleased things are going your way :dbgrtmb: :grphg:

Warning to anyone who is approached by someone/ a company saying they can work wonders for you on the stock market. If they can do that then why are they bothering to waste their time selling to you when they can make the millions for themselves? Most companies are genuine (they're all slightly crooked in my opinion) and have no intention of fiddling you. It's the 'get rich quick' boys that are dodgy. :)

I used to work for a certain company and as such we were allowed to buy shares in a company share save scheme, having no proper pension is seemed like a good idea 25 yrs ago.
Anyway amassed a fair few shares over the years, they were priced at around £19 a share 7 yrs ago, they took a nose dive after Christmas and are now £3 a share.

Yeah, I'll hang on to them and hope things start to look better, but to me the FT 100 is not much use.

I used to deal in penny shares. Hugely volatile but you very fast gains or losses which I did very nicely out of... and probably lost an equal amount! Some years later the company I used was investigated for bad practice and I was able to claim a lot back as mis-sold shares through the fscs, something I found ridiculous.

Pre 1986 I used to play around with the stock market as a hobby and did reasonably well :blue thumb:. Then they went automated and everything was much too fast for me to follow. So in 1987 I decided to sell everything. Two weeks later there was the big crash - Black Monday. :phew:

Nobody has ever offered me compensation.

We know the rules re:the stock market."You may not get back what you put in" and I know I mustn't gamble my life's savings in my Capital & Income Bond but my modest monthly withdrawal buys the odd meal out as a treat and seems to prevent me from being tempted to take out more. Over the years it has served me well and the sum I invested - together with my monthly TREAT withdrawals is giving me a much better return than the standard Bank Interest rate, so I don't get panicky over the dips .

The AIM market was only really for the big companies to do the backing. They're much too volatile for the small fish like us! Big rises, big falls and collapses.

The exact market I dabbled with and knew the risks so I was reasonable surprised when someone calls up saying you can get compo for missold shares. I told them to sling it and filed the form myself and shortly got a bundle of cash back. I still expect someone to call telling me there's been a mistake - why should I get compensation?! Country has gone all compensation crazy

Easily explained. 70% of the profit of FTSE100 companies is earned abroad and with global growth currently close to 3.5% (UK growth in the last quarter of 2018 stood at 0.2%) coupled to the weak pound makes it FTSE companies attractive short term propositions to overseas investors which drives the price up. Bear in mind also that these elite companies are also paying dividends in the region of 4/4.5%.
Far more relevant is the FTSE All Share UK index compared to the FTSE All World index. Here we have underperformed at a worrying rate - 20 to 25%!
Most alarming is that Foriegn Direct Investment into the UK has dropped by 90%.

So the EU say the UK can have an extension if they definitely have a plan to move forward. Barnier fails to convince the EU that we do have said plan.... so the EU are rumoured to be allowing an extension to the end of the year?! Keeping the door open for the UK to be all sorts of difficult in the interim. I. Do. Not. Get. Politics.

To me it all adds up to, we aint leaving.
If we do eventually "leave" it will be in name only and still shackled to the EU.

They, the politicians, MPs, have ground us all down, they know we are totally fed up with their squabbling, I think they prefer to call it "discussions".

And now the silly sods think we are going to vote in EU elections, are these people real?
I assume if we do, and if we vote for Farage they will set about altering that as well, not that I will, only thing I will ever vote on again is the rerun of the referendum from 3 yrs ago, when that happens.

My vote will be the same as last time.
But with the extra two fingers.
                          Up yours you R soles.
