It's a whopper isn't it? It's southfacing so doesn't cast any shade on the garden. It really makes the garden secure and it gives me this fabulous opputunity to grow a huge montana [IMG]
I know the support I've chosen perhaps isn't ideal, but can you imagine climbing that to drill holes for eyelets?!? Or how much chicken wire you'd need to cover it?!?

I think Montana is one of the prettiest Clematis, ours are in full flower at the moment ..

A ruthless cut back every year is necessary here, this one runs across and through some Eleagnus hedging and is very effective ..

Mona. I love the south of France, particularly Provence but, thanks to you, I have really started to hate it. :D

On mine the leaf buds are just opening. And the cold rain has just started here.

DB, how are you going to get up to prune or whatever? Sure, you'll get some advice on ladders but i wouldn't get up there

Lucky it's south facing, so will be able to grow all sorts. I can't wait to see it. It's going to look amazing. Keep your camera in good nick, you need it to keep us all informed :D

    cheers

Borrowers. Don't be naughty. With that size wall you never need to prune. It will look pretty tatty in winter but in spring ....... oh boy.

borrowers, growing a Montana on twine, especially when it is wet, it will soon be on the floor. So no problem pruning. [IMG]

It's polypropylene twine, so it won't rot. I did think of that.
No need for the superior attitude. I thanked you for your advice, but chose not to take it. That's up to me.
After seeing the picture of the wall, can you not appreciate the difficulty we'd have putting up any more sturdy support?

@ David - It won't get wet. It never rains in Notts except to order (Or in Wormwood Scrubs for that matter).

@ Borrowers. When I say bottoms up I mean glasses. Hope you do to. :D
