Thanks walnut, I suspected that it's caterpillars, but am really pleased to have buds on one my original plants after all the problems, my cuttings however are looking very chewed up! don't expect to see any blooms on them this season, but I'll keep trying, and will post some pics when the blooms are out.

After Bob moved our plant out of harms way and put it in a very shady corner on the 23rd of July I just can't believe the difference in the plant.

In such a short time it's nearly doubled it's size and there are plenty of flower buds coming through... how come this is happening in such a shady place? I had thought these plants liked the sun am I wrong? Hel.xxx.

 

Helen, I read on this thread that they dont like too much sun, so ive put mine in a shady spot, but it geta afternoon sun, and there thriving, trebbled in size and thickness, a few holes in the leaves, Pesky leafcutter bee's I think, Still no buds tho, Also I water them twice a Day, if i dont, they sulk haha..

 

Dear Helen you must pay attention I think you must have the lotty on your mind, I have mentioned a few times they like much less than full sun,some of the photo's I have posted of mine even have the shade sail on them this is to protect them from the mid-summer sun,Young Daisy has the right idea watering them sometimes twice a day, as soon as the main stem forks /divides Young Daisy you will be rewarded for your patience buds will develope soon after,Hel as a start on you because her plant is from a cutting taken off the parent plant above the fork,yours should make it in the next couple of months.

I'm glad I got something right I've put mine in a shady corner of the garden and it looks happy there. I counted six new flower buds on it today.
I was wondering if I might be able to take some cuttings? Am I too late this year or is it not a good idea from a young plant.

 

Not too late terrier take some side shoots off if you wish either: pop them in water or pot them in multipurpose cover them with a bio dome(clear plastic cup or cut the bottom out of a clear pop bottle) use perlite as your potting medium instead of multipurpose and cover the same,the older the wood on the cutting the better it is.

I have lots of new shoots and growth on mine since it went into the ground but no sign of buds .... yet ....

At a car-bootie today a guy was selling Brugs without explaining that they're poisonous. Bit irresponsible?

 

Oh Walnut surely you haven't only just found out that I have the attention span of a goldfish?:D Although you could well be right too much Lottie talk on my mind than garden plants at the moment...sorry.:o

Anyway to redeem myself I thought it might be a good idea to post a little picture of my treasured plant as it is this fine morning.



The bamboo fence behind it is 4ft high and as you can see the plant pot is only a couple of inches lower than the bottom of the fence. As I said before in only a week or so it's doubled it's size since moving into this shady corner and has now got nine flower buds on it......thank goodness Bob knocked the second flower bud over otherwise it might never had made it into this little corner in the first place which in turn would have robbed the plant of it's growth and me of it's flowers!.Hel.xxx.

 

Hi Hel that's more like it nearly there now and looking good it's not the one I first thought it was sunset, the flower on that is going to be pink an import from the continent, it's probably "katrin bronte" a nice little brug. you have redeemed yourself.

 

Yep you are Walnut this one does indeed have pink flowers when the very first flower bud opened up I thought 'I wonder what colour it's going to be? I was rewarded with a very pale shade of pink....very girly!:D

Just a shame it only had one flower open at that time but I'm in luck this time round as it looks like I'm in for a treat as there are plenty coming on now.

I'm so pleased with how it's doing I'm going to be greedy and try and get my hands on some more! Does that make me an addict do you think?:confused:Hel.xxx.
