Pete, thats a beautiful picture. So sorry it has gone.

Hi GeorgeBean. You will have gathered, from the posts, that you can grow Brugmansia and Datura in this country. But the problem will be overwintering them. Its not easy, but it can be done.

    Before I had a g/house I over-wintered them in a plastic patio g/house. I used to put a candle in th e bottom when frosts were forecast.

PeterS ... I have the I cyaneum and whatever it was that Pete sent me ... a pale blue one .... :dh: ... which has overwintered here and is doing well. The Cestrum I have is C 'newelii'.

Pete, regarding the B sanguinea ... I'm at least going to have a go ... :ntwrth: I have it in a large clay pot where it will not get the heat of the day sun.

Caj :luv:, is the candle like lighting a candle in church ... saying a little prayer? :hehe:

I'm not actually saying sanguinea wont do well for you Victoria, but I think any flowering will be early and late in the year.
Potentially if you can get it through the summer months I'm sure it will do well.

Hi Giys, Walnut was kind enough to give me a B. Arborea last June/early July. It has about 15cm when I got it and now is 1.6m tall. I have added a picture below but it has not yet flowered. Any idea when it will, do I need to change the pot size?

Hi waquas, Walnut has deserted us I think.

I think your plant needs to go outside if it is to flower.

    Hi wagas.

I agree with Pete, perhaps it's time for it to go outside although it looks very healthy.

Walnut always told me that they will not flower until the stem 'forks' and I can't see that yours has from your picture.

    Good luck with it.

That picture was taken about a week ago when the good weather started.

It’s now given off quite a few side shoots all over the stem so might be the forking you mention. Walnut did say that it should flower inside.

I am really excited as it’s my first Burg and can't wait for the flower and smell. Never seen one before, hope it smells nice.

I will put it out then this week, but will heavy rain not damage it, and I'v got horrid lilly beatles all over my lilies, can’t kill them quick enough, will they attack the burg?

    Thanks again both of you.

Side shoots are different than a 'fork', which is a Y shaped diversion at the top of the stem/trunk.

Are you expecting heavy rain? How silly, you are in the UK and you may have snow and hailstorms in the next few weeks .... :dh: Maybe you should keep it indoors for another couple of weeks for safety sake but make sure it has plenty of air.

I know nothing about Lilly Beetles, sorry.

I think it still has a lot of growing to do yet Wagas. I would be inclined to put it in as big a pot as you can. I have got mine in 35litre pots, with 50 litre pots available.

It should love the rain. On some sites they say you should water it and feed it every day. Mine have been outside for some weeks now, and have shrugged off a recent temperature of -2C.
