£92 for 250ml ... http://www.gro-welldirect.co.uk/pests-disease/professional-products/dynamec-professional-product/
Well, I've just looked at a fallen leaf under the 'scope', and sure enough, there's loads of the little.....gits there. There was a bit of a mix-up with my order for the 'Dynamec', but I'm now assured it will be here tomorrow. Maybe this was the reason I never got on with Cucumbers in the greenhouse?
Seasonal, in the sense that they only operate at higher temperatures I think. No idea where they come from though (assuming you kill all the ones that you have) Supposedly (I've read mixed opinions) increased humidity reduces their activity - misting and/or a tray of water nearby that can evaporate. There are parasitic bugs that will eat Red Spider. Need to have hot temperatures for that (so may not be all that good for outside) and then cannot get from plant-to-plant, so have to put "some on each plant". Capsid Bugs will also eat the leaves to ribbons ...
I do my very best to spray the undersides of the leaves, but still get about two attacks a year. Managed to get some American stuff called Forbid which works very well. One application that soaks through to the underside of the leaf. The leaves will have a brown/yellowpapery appearance , and you'll see fine webbing at the top the plant's growth. Kill em! Kill them all!! Wayne
I find you can never totally destroy all of them, the ideal is a greenhouse with no plants all winter and new plants each year, otherwise the older plants just infect the newer ones. I bought biological control at great expense for quite a few summers, and although it works, up to a point, it never will totally destroy all the pest, you have to keep introducing new predators on a summer long basis. It runs out expensive. Also with predators you cannot spray, should you get another type of pest.
Pretty much nothing is overwintered, but that will change this year, with having a 'Brug'. To carry on with this subject (sorry), would I be right in thinking that RSM might also be a pest on things like Courgettes, Squash and the like? Btw, my 'Dynamec' turned up this morning, so I will treat later, when I manage to get hold of something that can measure out very small quantities.
Hiya Kristen. Thing is, until two days ago my Courgettes and Squash were in the greenhouse. I've also got a Cucumber waiting to go out. Might be prudent to give them a dose too?
So long as the chemical is safe for food crops then I would say "Yes" - Red Spider seems to get onto thing, which it likes to eat, all too easily ... sign of a successful pest I suppose
My lovely wife popped out to the local chemist and got hold of an 'Advanced Oral Dosing Pack' which measures up to 1ml, perfect
Hiya John. I needed something that could measure out a small measure, as the dilution rate meant that 0.5 mls needed to be added to 0.4ltrs of water, more than enough to treat a few plants. Indeed, once applied, I still had plenty left over which had to be discarded.
