Joolz, Sal's is the Brugmansia sanguinea. I actually bought one here in Aldi in 2011 but pete did tell me it would not survive here because of the heat. I was delighted last year when I got a bud ... BUT ... it was actually Charles Grimaldi in the packet ... here is the packet and my first bloom ... I've not regretted having Charlie for one moment ...
I've been round to two friends house's who both have flowering cuttings of Charles Grimaldi, and I don't ..despite having the mother plant. Humrumphhh!! Great pictures, that Sang is lovely. And well spotted about the difference of leaf between warm and cold species. What a lovely sunny day out there Wayne
Kristen unfortunatly the cutting you gave me died , sanguinea it`s not easy from cutting this is a pink brugmansia that someone from Italy gave me because didn`t flower .....never dare to tell her that actually was a red sanguinea and not a pink brugs .
Freddy to be honest you are a bit unlucky , last year I had a 4 inches brugmansia that by June was already in flower , the cold spring is to blame .....my old brugs are just on the move now . finger cross that this weather will hold for a while .
Kristen what tis the name of the white brug please? ive not got no buds showing on it yet thou but tons of tiny buds on the grimaldis x
So Joolz did it worth the wait? that plant will flower up to november if you keep it indoor again . was I right with the frase you will fall in love with brugs after the first flower will come out
Sal..im smitten!! i have been smelling it all night again.. even dragged my neighbour in for a sniff Thank you so much for introducing me to brugs x I beleive a brug collection is in order if possible
Depends how "mature" your plant is I think. For young plants still early, probably. For mature plants then with love (well: loads of feeding!!) and enough heat they will be flowering. I grew them from seed. Probably Brugmansea arborea (the one you have is single presumably?)
Before you get addicted! my advice would be to stick to Good Do'ers. Lots of really fancy ones to temp you, but in my experience they produce few flowers, sporadically, and are not robust growers - so needs lots of attention etc. Here's some to tempt you though! http://www.junglegardens.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d16_Brugmansia_Plants.html Mind you ... there were quite a lot on Wayne's Good Do'ers List: http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/brugmansias.51387/page-2#post-675617
Ah, they didn't come from Jungle Seeds then, I got those from Moles Seeds. No wonder I had seeds to share - Moles seed packets are huge, whereas with Jungle Seeds you're lucky to get 10 seeds ...
