According to the butterfly conservation people, these caterpillars live on deciduous trees

Deciduous trees; most frequently on sallows, birches, oaks and Hazel (Corylus avellana) but also Alder (Alnus glutinosa), limes, elms, Beech (Fagus sylvatica), Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) and Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus), preferring those in sunny locations.

So if they are a problem on a particular tree in your garden you could always transplant them into one that you don’t much care about. :)

A Beautiful Demoiselle was posing on my tomato plant (a potato-leafed variety) this afternoon.

There was a huge dragonfly bombing around at the bottom of the garden but it didn't slow down enough for an ID let alone a photo!

Then I found this big caterpillar, sadly drowned in a little bit of rainwater that had collected in the bottom of a container. Privet Hawk Moth?

Far too quick for me to catch pictures, but on a fairly busy road was what looked like this to me... (only one with the colours)

Apparently a Southern Hawker here up north! Third or fourth dragon fly I've seen this year, but the others were not the same colour as this one. Large garden and woods nearby with various water supplies.

I never got around to removing the apple that rotted on a feeder, and now it's attracting the butterflies.

Some fresh looking Admirals around now and this White which I am not sure whether Large or Small, couldn't get an open wing shot.
