cactus and succulent

    HI Grumpy , there are more then 200 frost hardy cactus , the point is to find the stronger species ....Opuntia are all frost hardy , they go from A -1 TO - 23 . I`ve read about the Maihuenia poeppigii but couldn`t find one yet.
    Pete , why don`t you cover the aloe and give the chance to get stronger, got lots of hardy cactus myself but didn`t plant them out yet , I want them to grow in my unheated greenhouse and plant them out next spring , even if i will cover them up untill big enough .
    I have to say that my aloe americana and marginata , went through last winter in a pot .

    Sal where do you live?

    Americana and marginata would not do that where I live unless in a micro climate.
    Such as where the gasteria is growing.

    I could cover the aloes but I spend a large part of my winter covering Streltzia, protea etc. it becomes all a bit much after a while.:)

      I live in Bedford , last year we had - 12 , lost all my cordyline ,palm ,bananas, flax , yucca striata ,jasmine and bamboo , great surprise by the agave , they are only 1 ft , even the bottlebrush is still alive and surprisly tradescantia zebrina and purple heat come back from dead .....
