Well, I have a happy wee camper, and instructions to make sure the camera is charged so she can have a play when she gets home from work. :dancy:

Might even think of a Pentax adapter at some point, which opens up another range of lenses (presumably the K-mount?) - although, not sure what lenses would be a worthwhile addition to the 'family'

Actually there are adapters for the G2 to most makes and I am a fan of the "legacy" Pentax lenses to the point where I have, in embarrassment, to confess to having 19 of them due to their legendary high glass quality and cheapness in the second hand market. But there are some great Nikon, Canon, etc second hand lenses out there and to be honest, FC, I think your Good Lady will have enough photo know how to decide what brand and type of lenses she might like in the future. And yes, for the Pentax it would be the K mount.:snork:

Thanks @ARMANDII - I am thinking about giving Santa a tip off and getting him to bring one of those LED ring macro lights to go with the new lens, and then I might just let her loose on the internet at some stage to have a look at other lenses and adapters.

Glad to hear Mrs. FC is happy with her new toy. :dbgrtmb: I'm looking for a new lens at the moment and there's too many to choose from! :)

Armandii......19 lenses! Are you trying to catch up with your Clematis count? :)

I know, I know,:dunno::sofa::hate-shocked:. I have bought 2 lenses and had one given me in the last month due to the need to cheer myself up [well, that's my excuse:doh:] but each one was specific use lens and to be honest not all that expensive. They were a Tonkina SZ-X 80-200mm F4.5 Macro Pentax, a SMC Pentax M Macro 50mm F4 lens, and the one that was given to me by the Seller was a Pentax 35-80mm SMC AF lens. They won't/don't sit still for long as I'm always trying to understand how to get the best out of them as I do with all my lenses. I have to admit to my shame that I am looking at one last lens which is one of the four models of the Pentax 100mm Macro lens.:dunno::hate-shocked::snork:

I know, I know, Woo:dunno:. Actually, I've just bought the 20th on E-bay today:doh::snork: When I go out on a drive around Cheshire, as I did today, I just take a "normal" fast lens on the camera, a telephoto lens and a macro lens both stuffed in my jacket pockets and that's it. My interest lies in Landscape, Wildlife, macro and portrait and the lenses are split into those areas with different focal lengths and Apertures.
I'm definitely not a expert but I am an enthusiast and I guess I have what is called a "curious" mind which is always trying to understand how to get the best out of a particular lens with my limited abilities as a photographer. There is a wealth of high quality legacy lenses for DSLR's out there and to be able to use a 50 year old lens with a modern camera and get a good pic out of it gives me a buzz. They're not expensive to buy and will stand against, if not beat in resolution and contrast, most of the modern equivalent lenses. So while I've got an eye on the future of cameras I've also got a eye on, and a use for, the history of them!!

Now, for future reference (either short or long term) are there any other lenses that are recommended, and why? See, I just don't really understand the measurements from 'x'mm to 'y'mm and what that actually translates to doing when on the camera?

I'm quite happy to get a Pentax adapter if that is needed, and am also looking at an LED macro ring light - any experience of these?

For the first I think some research is needed with regard to adaptors and lens whether Pentax or not, FC. On the second I've just bought, but haven't yet received, a Meike Ring Flash after doing a bit of a search for a reasonable one for my K5. A Pentax branded Ring Flash would make my Bank Manager weep and I hate to see a grown man, even a Banker, cry. I would go on the Net and have a look at the reviews on that one and others. Ring Flashes are useful in Macro shots but have been criticised as giving a "flat" shadowless image because of the distribution of light. But I have seen many pics taken using them and they looked great to me and there are techniques and tricks that one can learn and use to improve our skills anyway.:dunno::snork:

I'm sure there are lots of knowledgeable people on GC that can give you advice on that. I'll have a chat with someone I know to see what he thinks.:snork:

Hi FC, it's actually the Meike FC [now there's a coincidence!!:heehee:] 110 Marco LED Ring Flash and the Controller fits on the flash hot shoe of the camera while the actual Ring Flash is supplied with different sized adapters for the lens barrel. I would have thought that if the hot shoe on the G2 is not a dedicated hot shoe [and I don't think it is] then the Ring Flash Controller will fit.:snork:
