Not being a G2 owner I'm not sure to be honest.:dunno::snork: If you get the chance have a look in the Manual without getting that glazed look in your eyes, I'll see what I get find out as well. Surely there are some Lumix owners out there on GC that will know??:snork:

Hi FC, to be honest I don't know about this particular model but Fotodiox has quite a reasonable name for reliability. However, there is one point this model is not a Ring Flash, it is a Ring Light. The difference being that it will only provide a constant light but not a Flash mode. There are some models out there that will either provide a flash only or a light only and also some that will provide both modes. I don't know whether or not you've informed your Good Lady that you intend to get her a Ring Flash/Light but perhaps you can find out what she would prefer?? Don't rush into this otherwise you could buy the wrong item, not that I am saying that this item is the wrong one, just that your Good Lady might prefer a Ring Flash rather than a Ring Light or one that does both.:snork:

I haven't spoken to her, as this is a last ditch thing to hand over to Santa if you know what I mean? However, the mutterings the other night were that more light was needed to make best use of the macro lens, partly to assist with the focussing onto the subject, which I assumed would be a light rather than a flash?

Life get's complicated, don't it??:heehee: It's a personal thing really as to what lines your Good Lady is thinking along.:dunno:
Firstly Macro is basically separated into 3 categories.
    a. Flowers and Plants
    b. Insects
    c. Inanimate objects like Clocks, pottery etc

I use natural light for the first and 99% are hand held shots:

and the same again for Insects
    [IMG]

Macro can lead her on to many things, she could use things like Extension Tubes that go between the lens and the camera increasing the magnification of the lens getting you even closer.

But back to Ring Flashes and Ring Lights. I haven't used either in Macro yet, but experience is whispering in my ear that possibly a constant light used carefully will not frighten an insect away, although there are some insects that will fly at the slight provocation. Even without a Ring Flash some insects, when you poke a lens at them close range, will object and run off When that happens I resort to a Telescopic lens [I have a favourite!] that will focus in fairly close and you can treat it as a macro shot.
I, as you know, have bought a Ring Flash recently [still not arrived] to try to increase my learning in that direction and because I have a feeling a Flash might be easier to use.
Some photographers don't use a Ring Flash for macro but just a ordinary Flash with a soft cover or Snood attached which seems to work for them.
You could buy the Fotodiox Ring Light as a item that your Good Lady could gain experience on and perhaps she would then think about a Ring Flash and an extension tube.

@ARMANDII - you sir, are a true gentleman. :blue thumb:

I was sort of thinking along the lines of something more in her armoury to get her going that bit more, and as her skills/interest increases (even more, if that is possible!) the I can look at other items as add-ons. Besides anything else, this is an avenue that can open up possibilities for a fair few birthdays and Christmases for a few years to come.....

You're welcome, FC:snork: There are lots of other things in the Macro world such a reversing ring that enables you to turn your camera lens around and increase the lens magnification even more!!
        Then there's stepping rings........we could go on.:heehee:

I have no doubt that I will be back for more of your wisdom in the future :blue thumb:

For the record, if I can ever assist with London travel etc, please do not hesitate to ask.
