Is this much different from faith schools? There are Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Sikh only schools all over the UK. Should ethnicity be viewed differently from religion? This is just another hole in the big cheese that is multicultural Britain.

An interesting facet is "what is so wrong with the already available schools?"

It`s fudging the issue slightly to focus on the racial aspects, rather than the obviously gaping flaws in the current education system.

Not too mention where is the funding for yet another school going to come from? LA owned or private?

To an extent I agree but only so far with what you say Treesurfer, but it`s my view there aren`t enough schools and shoving thousands into one superschool just doesn`t seem to be the answer.

But then, I`m affected by Pink Floyds The Wall and do think there is a factory line system in place that crushes any slight deviation from the path laid out by vote touting MPs, more interested in getting the funding for their "fact finding" trips to the States or wherever else they fancy a holiday to.

I don't think it is necessarily a bad idea to have school reserved to different ethnic groups (although i would like the majority of school to be "mixed"), as they can reinforce the community spirit and culture of that group. The joungsters should be given the choice of the environment where they feel more at ease.

If they dont feel able to intergrate with our cultures/ beleifs then they should go and live elsewere. Why should we allow them to form ghettos, it will acheive nothing good.

Many of the problems in this country are being caused by the political corectness manifested and championed by labour.

Before anyone says Ive jumped the gun, remember that adult opinions are often formed at childhood, the time when some are sugesting it apropriate to have a systme of segregation even if it is voluntary.

    Yeah why?

It may be slightly off topic, but its still basically the same subject.

Because we are a immigrant nation.

We have always had enclosed areas where predominant Irish immigrants have settled, or Indian immigrants have settled.

I live in a Protestant country, yet I am of Irish Catholic descent. I went to a Catholic school, my children ar eCatholic and they go to a Catholic school too.

Why? Because that`s the way I want it to be, and if anyone category of people want it they should have it to. Just because that`s what they want.

I may perhaps have also jumped the gun, I know how you all are to a certain extent and have overstated my case, but I get the impression just from the recent threads there is a bit too much emphasis on the race element and not enough on the shabby education system element.

But that was the point of the original post, race not religion.

I dont think its about the shabby education system.

We maybe an immigrant nation, and if you like to delve far enough back you will find that nearly every nation has been invaded or overtaken by another nation through the years.
The only ones that haven't seem to have died out before it could happen.

Its just that our recent influx seems to have happened very quickly in the scale of things, and are now just beginning to "call the shots".

Which doesn't bode well for the future peace, in my opinion.
