calls for black schools

Not quite so well I think Dee, that is the "pc brigades" fault. It has people with good ideas silenced for fear of offending people.

 

The main reason why not as far as I'm concerned, is because I end up paying for it.
Schools pandering to different sections of the community are old fashioned.
If they are privately funded, thats not a problem.

Shools should be teaching kids what is needed to get a job, religion and colour should not come into it.

Religion is a side issue that should be taught by the parents, if thats what they want.

 

It seems to me that black only schools would be if nothing else a big insult to the black pioneers who gave up their liberty to fight to abolish segregation. I also believe that if immigrants liked this country enough to choose to come here to live, why should they want to change it to what they have come from as soon as they feel settled here..........doesn't make sense to me. When we all start treating each other equal irrespective of colour or creed then maybe we can all live and let live in harmony. All this pc nonsense is creating not resolving problems. This Government's lack of immigration control has caused resentment. Which ironically seems to be more between asian and black west Indian than between white and black. Too many immigrants have influxed the country before it has had time to assimilate them into a integrated society. The more they are allowed to settle in segregrated communities the harder it will become for them to integrate into Briish society and having black only schools would only exascerbate this. IMHO.

 

Not to be inflammatory Pete, but nonsense! You are already paying for their education, surely it would be worth opening ones mind to the possibility that the way we have it at the moment is wrong, otherwise everyone regardless of creed, colour, gender, language would all be skipping to school satchel swinging at their sides, waving hello to "Dorothy the Lollipop Lady" and leaving an apple for the teacher every day.

It is not working the way it is. And not to put too fine a point on it, but these kids who can like it or lump it, are the parents of the people who will be shuffling you, and the rest of us, off to some grubby rundown council run care home to keep us "from ourselves". Why? Because they`re paying for it.




Moyra, Why would it be an insult? They were fighting for the freedom to choose where they could sit, and be taught and eat and shop. If this is an eyes wide open choice then the pioneers can rest easy in their graves I think.

 

The trouble is Claire if you have black only schools where is the choice in that for whites or asians? The idea is to integrate not to segregate people of different culture and ethnic origin otherwise there never will be proper integration.

 

Integration or assimilation?


I get sick and tired of hearing people complain because immigrant A can`t speak English correctly-then display their own less than sterling vocabulary, or the ex-pat in Spain or Corfu, who only has English Ex pat friends and after 2 yrs still can`t make a simple order at a restauraunt then sit and pontificate about how it "should" be in England.

The abuse Muslim women who choose to wear full Islamic gear, get just walking doen the street. Then take a look at any city centre on a Saturday night in the middle of November-not only is it full of tarts but stupid freezing ones at that!

We have a lot to learn from other cultures, force feeding them a stale one is uselss and at times-as an English woman, humiliating.

How much will you learn from any child during school hours anyway Dee? Regardless of which school they are in?

And the call wasn`t for all balck people to go to different schools, it was for an option to have some all black schools so they can address some of the social issues in certain areas of the country.

Sorry if it sounds way off topic, but I honestly believe it is bang on topic.

 

To Answer your first question Lollypop, I work in a School...But I was thinking about our children learning about Different Cultures...Which isn't possible if there segragated..
Also I was referring to your comments that had nothing to do with the subject being Waaay off topic

 

I appreciate your point of view, and welcome the opposing opinions, however mine remains unchanged. It is about freedom of choice I think, and forcing families to accept only one environment of education is fundamentally flawed.

 

The topic of black schools was the subject of Radio 4's Moral Maze programme last week. The four "expert witnesses" (2 for the proposal and 2 against the proposal) were all black and included Lee Jasper himself. You can probably still catch the programme on Listen Again - it's worth it. The views of the black "expert witnesses" were as strongly opposed to each other as those on this forum.

It is quite heartening to my increasingly cynical soul to find there are still some things people care very deeply about.

 

To go back to the beginning, I'd like to know why it is considered that mixing black children with white children causes the black ones to fail?
It doesn't appear to cause any other races to fail.
I would like to know why that mix is perceived as causing a failure and how it can be fixed.
I don't see how segregation can be the answer, we all have to live together outside of schools, so in schools is the best way to start getting that experience.
