...but the distinction between male and female is a simple one in the uk (Thailand is a bit harder !) Single sex schools are an outdated notion IMHO also.

    Boobies:luv:, no boobies.:(

Define 'black' with such clarity in todays Britain .

Just listened to the listen again thing, and it seems a much more complex situation than I at first thought, starting with frightened racist female teachers, taking in a class element, the consequences of their parents' experience of overt racial oppression and the belief on the part of the boys ( apparently they suffer the most), that they are viewed as criminals by teachers all seem to play it`s part.

    Very complex indeed.

Sorry Nursewhen, I missed your post.

According to the radio programme about which this whole thing has come from, the "witnesses" have claimed that racist teachers overtly treating the black young men as criminals and have expectations of them as trouble makers. That the current curriculum forcuses too heavily on white culture ( although I concede this would be easy to address and if what my son is studying already has begun to change), and would provide an environment for ( according to the show) young afro-carribean men that understands the issues they are facing at the moment. Apparently a young black man is eight times more likely to die from violence than an equivalent white young man.

It`s quite interesting actually and addresses the prevalence of single parent families within this particular community. ( And now I am going to put on a hard hat for that can of worms:wink:).

I remember when we were at school we had Christian assemblies every morning in a room full of white faces. Teachers were still horrible :p

Black racism exists amongst black teachers too btw:cnfs: being subjected to racism is clearly horrible, but you cannot explain those figures by suggesting it is the effect of schooling alone. These pupils will still live in the same communities yet further segregated and bullied outside of school.

I know kids that went to different secondary schools to those of us that progressed from Juniors to local comp were snubbed !

It was suggested it was more to do with class, and country of origin issues-Africans tend to be higher acheivers than Carribean people.
