    Now you're getting into the science of it Steve. I presume the only way you'll find that out is to ask the makers of the camera. :)

      I use the same tissues that I use to clean my specs. Come in sachets and are moistened with stuff that evaporates.

        This is according to Cannon latest camera:)

        Photographers who must change lenses in dusty environments will find the advanced Canon EOS Integrated Cleaning System a tremendous time saver. It uses both mechanical and software methods to effectively deal with dust accumulation on the imaging sensor. Dust that settles on the low-pass filter is removed using ultrasonic vibration. This self-cleaning routine is automatically activated whenever the camera is powered on or off. (It can also be manually activated.) A special collar positioned around the sensor collects the loosened dust. :scratch: ​

          Thanks Woo, I knew all of that except for the collar (belly button).

          My Anne has just asked me "How do you know when the collar is full, and what then?"

          I'll bet you a pinch of Petunia seeds canons answer would be "Send it to us, time for a service"

            It's important to point out that any dust you may see through the viewfinder will not effect the image unless it's on either end of the lens. NEVER keep open the reflex mirror and mess with the shutter or sensor.

              My Canon 10D and 5D both pre-date any automatic sensor cleaning - so I regularly have to remove dust from the sensors which finds its way in when I change lenses.
              I use a nylon artists brush and the method described here -

              Only takes a couple of minutes and I have never had a problem.

              Dust on the lens itself is something we often worry about needlesly..

                I too had the old 5D and found it really bad for dust and I had it serviced and cleaned regularly at Lehmans of Stoke.
