Can someone explain it to me, in simple terms?

    One of my brother's had a knitting needle jabbed into his buttock while he was waiting in the dinner queue at secondary school. The bully and his cohorts tormented him throughout his school life as: "The Yid Kid".

      Sad for your brother @"M" Kids in school can be so mean. Hope he is ok, and successful. They picked on me, because of my red hair, however, I did have my own group that was safe, and friends outside of school.

        I hope that this thread can continue in an amicable way but I can't see much more to discuss once we have agreed that all forms of discrimination are abhorrent. Unfortunately, the situation always has been there and, I think, always will.

        For such an experienced and astute politician I think that Ken Livingstone made an enormous blunder. It has been known for many years that he's a strong Anti-Zionist and a not so strong Anti-Jewish person. This incident, coming on top of Naz Shah being suspended from the Labour Party for Anti-Semitism has brought the situation to a head at just the wrong time for Labour.

        For some unknown reason Labour seem to have always been more Anti-Semitic than the Conservatives. :scratch:

        I think that this has become more of a problem since the general situation throughout the world has brought so many more intolerances to the surface.

        with our family having been in the East End of London for some generations Oswald Moseley and the Blackshirts are still remembered.

          A false Muslim that I once worked with, and clashed with a bit, spread a rumour in our office that I was a Jew, in an effort to turn my colleagues against me.

          There was a major flaw in his plan. I didn't care, and my colleagues didn't care whether or not I was Jewish. They were more bothered that someone would try to use religion to create rifts within the team.

            Thank you. He survived very well actually. Spent time in the armed forces where he saw active service; then joined the prison service (realised that wasn't for him) and eventually set up his own business.
            As for the main bully? He left school as soon as he could; lost his hand in an industrial accident shortly after and then, a few years down the line, died young as a consequence of drug taking/dealing.
            My grandmother had red hair; her nickname was Poppy because of it. Red is beautiful!

              @pete

              I can't answer that but I've just had a quick Google :rolleyespink: :heehee: and come up with this!

              http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36165298

              It explains part of it but it's not all that clear.

              In the newspapers they quote Ken as having continually repeated "I've never met anyone who has been Anti-Semitic or said anything Anti-Semitic." I know that to be inaccurate because I was at an open meeting about 30 years ago (with him as one of the panel of speakers) when a number of people in the audience made blatant Anti-Semitic comments to the panel. To be fair to Ken, he didn't agree or support them - but he didn't say much at all. Some of the others called to have them ejected from the hall.

                      Yep, but it's all in the context of how the Little Corporal "supported" Zionism and Ken knew that but has hid under the defence of it being historically accurate. He is what he is and does us no good.:dunno::coffee:

                        @Everhopeful It's just that both Ken Livingstone MP and Naz Shah MP have been suspended from the Labour party for making comments that have been/could be construed as Anti-Semitic.
