Joolzs with a nice mulch they will survive happy , the only problem is that nothing will start to grow back untill June , by starting the rizhomas indoor by mid May you will already have a nice cannas display and not an empty spot in your garden ....
but it`s up to your , they will eventually chat up and flowering as well.

I was suspecting that you do`t have enough heating , did you check that your propagator is hot enough? touch the bottom and feel how hot it is , maybe it broken and you didn`t realise or it`s just not hot enough to produce the heat required
can you move it to a hot place?

Checked the propagator and is still working.
On closer inspection of the tray I think there are some little green shoot trying to pop through :snork:

It's weird, because I got my seed started on a windowsill, no extra heat...

at this point my bet is that you will have your cannas popping out tmw ........

if the seeds will be out tmw that will simply means that you bought a bad stock of seeds ....who did you get them from???

            Really hope so
Got my last batch from karchesky canna in the states. 1 out 40 germinated
Sown on feb 3 or 4
            10 of bronze tropical
            10 of tropical white
            10 musa grande
            10 sky hawk (1germinated)
It's just weird that no one else has had any problems with them.
I've stuck the tray in the airing cupboard to see if this helps. Not to lose really

It is strange Mowgley :dunno: , I've ordered from Karchesky 3 times and had no problems with germination, used some seed this year that I had left from last year and they germinated too :) Maybe something happened to them in transit?, I know I'm clutching at straws but it is unusual for several varieties not to germinate, one batch of one variety yes but several??

I have successfully germinated Canna seed on a warm windowsill many times in the past too Freddy, the heated proagator just gives them a kick to get them going a bit quicker as Sal says. Even now when I've moved a pot to the windowsill from the propagtor that's still had a seed in there its gone on to germinate on the windowsill :dbgrtmb:

Ive used the top of our fire (heat from back boiler), window ledge(heat from radiator) and a heated propagator and what ive decided for me is that im going to start my seeds of the end of dec next yr,the heatings on longer the house is warmer on a whole.
The 1st cannas i started are looking good and the glauca i started approx 6 week later are the same height now :dunno: so i think for me with no double glazing that late dec will work better for germination posssibly.... but then bilbo only has his heating on 4 hrs a day and has top results :blue thumb: im positioned(front) sw in the afternoon so its not warm in my living room til afternoonish if suns out:sad:
Im having to keep moving them about all day depending on their age! where as my first 3(dec) can handle some sunlight :)

Now my Canna seedlings are settled on a warm windowsill they are coming along nicely, a couple are nearly 6 inches tall and some are starting to show nice colour to the leaves, in particular Russian Red and Speciosa and all are looking very healthy :dancy: :)
