Jools - many thanks for that link. Though it would be still nice to see a list of seeds and prices.

Thanks also Kristen for your link. But their old seed offer is a bit wooley. Its not clear what is available now and at what price. I see the new site is still under construction, so lets hope that have a seed section.

Lots of photos of Canna varieties (155 I think ?), but I didn't see any about Brugs, nor a list of seeds, as you say.

Seems a little backward to build a new site with no eCommerce - even a Paypal storefront would be fine, and they are easy to set up & integration.

Photos of the Cannas I am growing from Rhizomes this year. The first is a picture of C. Bengal Tiger . I bought 3 rhizomes from Hart Canna . Each had a shoot on it , wasn't sure whether to remove this or not . I left them on and the new growth is showing from there after 10 to 15 days.
The second is my C. Tropical red from last year , I potted up four rhizomes. Three have shoots after 9 to 13 days , waiting on number 4 !

Check the roots Joolz, they do like regular potting on to keep them growing well, I have found they 'stall' if they become too root bound during the growing on period, they will also stall if the average temperature they're being kept in has fallen too much :)

That could be the reason,it has been colder at night but i keep the house at 22-24c for at least 14 hrs a day and i move them from the window ledges at night. There as been no sunshine i dont suppose that helps either:frown:
Got my eye on the roots, most are in 7cm pots and the 1st 3 warscewizii i started in dec are now in 11cm pots, they are doing well :)
Maybe a change over of window ledges during the day might benefit the smaller ones :dunno:

                I found this on http://www.plantoftheweek.org/week196.shtml

Canna edulis, or Achira, is native to the West Indies and South America. They are vigorous growers and will reach 10 ft (3+ m) in nature, but usually reach about 4-6 feet (1-2 m) in containers. The tubers are used as food in the Andean Mountains and it is the source of Arrowroot starch in Australia. They are hardy in USDA zones 7-12.
Blooming Time: In the greenhouse, they bloom all year long. The small 2½ inch (5 cm) long flowers are red with an orange to yellow lip. Although they are small, they are still quite showy.
Culture: Canna edulis need full sun to partial shade with a well-drained soil. In the greenhouse, we use a soil mix consisting of 1 part peat moss to 2 parts loam to 2 parts sand or perlite. The soil is kept moist at all times for optimum growth. Plants are fertilized on a weekly basis with a balanced fertilizer. They are very vigorous growers and will out grow most containers very quickly. Division of clumps in containers should be done on a yearly basis. As flowers fade, the stalks should be cut back to the ground.
Propagation: Canna edulis are propagated by division and by seed. The hard seed coat needs to be scarified and soaked in water for 24 hours. Seeds germinate in 14-21 days after sowing.
Canna edulis was featured as Plant of the Week January 10-17, 2003.

That's a very useful site Harry - thanks.

However - I still don't know where we stand with respect to the Canna virus. Currently I am just growing from seed and keeping my distance from everyone and everything. Perhaps I am just paranoid. :snork:
