Happy looking chappies - considering they were only supposed to be germination test guys :)

Was thinking about that earlier sun shine
But when it does decide to turn to spring/summer surely the temperature of the soil is going to be lower than normal.
Is covering the ground to warm the soil going to be beneficial to cannas before planting out

I plant mine out late May Mowgley. When the good weather starts ( it will) the ground heats up fairly quickly in sheltered gardens.

Yesterday morning I got my Cannas out from the greenhouse that I had wrapped for the winter from last year, I knocked them out of the pots removed old compost, cut back the old roots, repotted in dry compost and, this is the best bit; my amazing wife :imphrt: :wub2: allowed me to put them on another warm, light windowsill in the house to give them some heat and get them shifting. I did promise they'd be back out in the greenhouse in May, so don't let me down now weather, get yourself warmed up by then :snork: :)

The good signs were that even though they've had no artifical heat as yet most had signs of new growth under the compost :dancy:

Just done same job bilbo. Potted up the canna warscewiczii looking healthy.
The canna New Zealand from sal only alittle behind those will pot them up later in the week.
The canna cleopatra Pete sent me last year has survived in the greenhouse over winter.
Potted that up, a bit of the tuber broke off but potted it on anyway.
Canna Wyoming survived too, same with that.
The canna altensteinii seeds bilbo sent me last did well in the pot but when I emptied it out today it hadn't formed a tuber????
But sadly mine will have to stop in the greenhouse to grow mrs Mowgley is having no more in the house! :nonofinger:

I'm going to pot up my overwintered cannas this weekend, with a bit of moist compost and the promised warmer weather they should wake up.

It's been lovely here today, 18 deg C in the greenhouse and plenty of sun, hope to see some movement in the next week on my overwintered stuff: Cannas, Brugs, Dahlias, Begonias and Bananas.
