Pretty much Joolz, I have had some nibbled by slugs and snails, especially when young but its never that detrimental as long as the growing point isn't damaged, I think the leaves are a bit tough for them..:)

The Caterpillars like them. I noticed that one of mine had a few holes, and found one getting fat. Not getting fat any longer:snork:

        Hiya Joolz.

The thing I've noticed is...if it's slugs, then the plant will have it's leaves nibbled from the outside in, whereas with caterpillars the leaves tend to be nibbled so as to form holes/shredding...

Bilbo could not help noticing that your lilies although large are in very small pots (9cm) ?? on the windowsill.
Also Peter lilies do not seem to be in very large pots as well.Do you find that they tend to fair better when bringing them on in smaller pots? and not get root bound. My first cannas I planted into something like a 2 litre pot and maybe that is where I am going wrong.

I've chucked the Canna warscewiczii in the ground, but I only really use them as "fillers". All the rest are in 2L - 5L pots, mostly about waist high, and hardening off ready for planting out in a week or so's time ... I'd like Min Night to be 10C before I plant out, otherwise I think?? that I will be swapping all the good growth I have got them to make with them stalling and being miserable and it putting them back a lot. I'll make do with bare patches in the beds until them - most of the herbaceous are only a foot or so high, so they are no spectacle either - they ALL look like they got the Chelsea Chop this year, and a fat lot of good that would have done any of them at that time, this year!!

Hi trogre, I have just potted all mine up into 2lt pots today to grow on for another 2-3 weeks in the greenhouse before going out in June. They wouldn't normally have been left as long as they have before potting on but as I normally pot on for the second time at the same time as putting them in the greenhouse I have delayed this because of the cool weather we've been getting.

Having said this I have found that they still do quite well in comparitively smallish pots so long as they are recieving plenty of feed. I've had mature flowering sized Cannas up to 8ft tall in 5lt pots and they're very healthy plants, BUT a nightmare to keep up in the wind , so if they're not going in the ground I usually go for a good 10-40lt pot depending on variety to add weight to them and stop them blowing over..:dbgrtmb:

Mine are way behind everyone else's, some are only just making an appearance through the compost

As I mentioned earlier today I have potted up my cannas into 2lt pots and moved them to the greenhouse after hardening them off for most of the last week. They needed to go out as the growth rate of some has really picked up, the Canna 'grand pink' in particular has gone from 34-35 inches last Tuesday to 43 inches today!!!, its really got a shift on

They will be kept in the greenhouse now for another 2 weeks and then hardened off again before going out in June. Whilst in the greenhouse they will be introduced to an increase in liquid feed after they've had a couple of days to settle in their new pots :snork:

Potted on Canna Pretoria & moved it out the front where it will get the most sun - much to the disgust of the ants which had built quite an extensive nest in the pot whilst it was in the greenhouse.. quite bitey - cant say I blame them, I was shaking their grubs out onto the lawn for the birdies at the time. Potted it in tight with some new compost & drenched it thru with the hose last night.

Vine Weevils really seem to go for warscewicziias I have found out in my greenhouse. Indica seem immune, so far.
