I'm a bit disappointed with my 'Brasiliensis'. The flowers shown on the packet looked so big! I'll be looking for something a bit more impressive next year. 'Picasso' is looking a favourite:)

Here's my Canna 'orange/red' hybrid this morning, just opening. Looks very similar to your Canna 'tropical' Harry :), its certainly a very bright red (doesn't come across in the photo so much), I likey

I think a lot of Canna names are flexible and used for several different types Bilbo . I grew these from seed 3 years ago and have been very pleased with them. But I have never got a seed from them . Now I know some are hybrids and don't produce seeds , but if that is so where did my seeds come from ?

I'm assuming brasiliensis is a species Freddy.
        Most have small flowers.
Go for the named Hybrids, if you want sizeable flowers.

Yes Pete, Brasiliensis is a species variety, as you say they tend to have smaller more delicate flowers. I also have Brasiliensis and along with Speciosa, Limbata and Altensteinii too which are all species varieties, to be honest I prefer them to the more showy hybrids :)

Love the australis joolz a bit bigger than mine but mine has a flower spike forming.
All my canna are still quite small compared to some on here, but they are smaller varieties ;)

Grrr...what do you have to do to get true-to-name/description cannas? Bought a dwarf, large-flowered pink..it's red:gaah: Bought seed of the Suttons edible one which showed variegated leaves..they're all plain-leaved:gaah: Bought what was supposed to be a vivid scarlet with purple leaves...it's turned out green-leaved with orange flowers:gaah: OK, most of them are garden-worthy, but it makes a mockery of planning colour schemes! Rant over...:)
