You have had 1 show up so i dont see how you could of done anything wrong mowgley :) I hope they come up for you even if its just 1 of each which is what i hoping for on mine.
I had a delicate route round in my glauca pots today and some of mine havnt germinated so ive removed a mm layer of compost off the top,im not sure if i planted them too deep :dunno: just to see if sunshine warms from the top aswell as the radiator heat underneath to urge them on :dunno: im not suggesting you do that though x

How did you buy seeds from Karchesky ? I don't see any actually offered with prices.

Karchesky seem to operate in a low key manner :) Seems to be quite a lot of communication via their Facebook page, but I think people have had most success by emailing them - which to me seems a laborious way for them to be managing a price list and orders, but I guess that's up to them!

Thanks LongK. I sort of assumed that must be the case. I have noticed that Hart also do a number of seeds (at the bottom of their list). I am wary of buying rhizomes because of the dreaded virus.

I have recently had two lots of Cannas germinate - both from Chilterns. Indica took 8 days (for the first) with 10 out of 12 germinating. And altensteinii taking 9 days with just 2 out of 6 germinating. Chilterns sent me the seeds ages ago and foolishly, knowing what they were, I never opened their parcel till I was ready to start sowing.

Only then did I see a note saying that altensteinii had been taken out of a fridge and should be sowed as soon as possible. This probably explains the low germination, but I thought Canna seeds were viable for a long time. Has anyone else had this problem, and does it occur with any other types?

Hart all-but guarantee that their Cannas are virus-free, so I, personally, would be happy buying Rhizomes there - although I'd prefer to buy a plant, in leaf, rather than waiting to see how a rhizome developed, whilst having to keep it in quarantine (and how far away would that have to be, I wonder? :( )

Kristen - I am sure Hart's Cannas are virus free.

But then its like minced beef = you can never be quite sure until some time afterwards.:snork:
