I planted out my cannas on June 1st this year. I'm trying to mix them up with dhalias and crocosmias for some classic hot border scheme. At first the combination looked quite odd - I still had some late tulips blooming on the edge of this bed. So tulips and cannas, what a display! :D

Hi Tistou - and a warm welcome to the forum. I must have missed your earlier posts. I have just had a look at your blog site - and you have some lovely pictures there.

I was sorry about your virus. Luckily I have heard so much about it from this forum, that I only to buy seeds, or plants from Harts Cannas or Jungle Plants.

On another thread I mentioned that seeds are often from species plants and consequently have smaller flowers. But last year I bought "Indian Shot Large Hybrids Mixed 10 seeds " from http://www.jungleseeds.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d20.html

These are seeds from mixed hybrids, and consequently have the large hybrid flowers. But seeds from hybrids will always vary from the parent, so you don't know exactly what you will get. And of course they are not named cultivars.

Quite pleased with myself today as I picked up a lovely healthy Canna Pretoria specimen of approx 30 inches in height and with several stems for just £2.99.

Always wanted one but as they can't be grown from seed not one I've had until now  :yay:
