Many have virus though - my advice is to grow from seed, or buy corms / tubers from a reliable nursery, and preferably only buy plants (as you will have some chance of checking them for virus, unlike Corms / Tubers)

Right this is puzzling me now  :dunno: My canna jinx has appeared again
After sowing the above cannas and got about 80 85% germination rate on the warscewiczii, sky hawk and burning embers.
But none of the 30 canna seeds collected from sals plants last year.
Sown in 2 batches 3rd and 13th feb
Just put some more into soak
Is it possible that these are sterile

A seed is never sterile, but it can be not viable.
              Usually if taken before ripe.
A plant can be sterile, in which case the seed does not form.

Took my Canna Rhizomes out of cold store today and gave them a good clean . The second photo are the first year C. Bengal Tiger which are 1 year old . I potted 5 of them up in 7" pots and they are now in the house for a bit of warmth and light.
The first photo is C. Tropical ( which is a generic Canna name I think ) . The rhizomes are as big as footballs now , and I had to split them so they are the right size for the £1 buckets. One seemed to split naturally down the centre , the others I had to take a 4" bolster and lump hammer to split them! I will pot up all I need in a couple of weeks , and give the rest away to friends and family - they can pot them up themselves this year - its costing me a fortune in £1 buckets !

Got my canna Australia's out of its pot this afternoon and it's bad news.
Most of the rhizome had rotted/crumbled when it took it out of its pot.
Good news is that I got 4 small bits of rhizome that was still firm and potted them up and brought into the house. I'm having a nightmare with cannas this year.
Got 4 large groups in the front garden which are still in the ground hopefully these will re shoot.
I left all the foliage on over winter but can't dig them up yet because there's daffs growing there.

My australis was still in a huge pot so i dug it out& split it in half, i found some asiatic lilly bulbs in with it and also i think Dahlia bulbs?? These were embeded in the australis roots so can anyone confirm that they are dahlias and not part of the canna please ...
