130 Cannas ! I grow six on every year - may go mad this year and grow seven

Hopefully these cannas have survived the winter. Going to leave the dried foliage to protect from frosts abit longer.

Can't dig them up because there's daffodils there
Has anyone tried covering them with black plastic to warm the soil around them to get them started earlier?

 

Cloche might be better? Black plastic more, I think, to warm soil and prevent weeds growing.

 

I bought some Canna Cleopatra tubers from Wyevale, whether they are virus free I don't know, nothing mentioned on the pack. Time will tell.

 

I used chopped straw but im thinking with all the rain they have prob rotted,il remove it all tomo and check

I found this wonderful forum while searhing cannas on internet and decided to play along a bit as you seem really nice and active community.
I love cannas, they are so exotic and special. Especially in northern part of Europe! Over the years I have had some cultivars but ruined all by introducing some virus infected plants. Last year I decided to start all over and ordered three varieties from Hart Cannas. They did well last summer.

I planted my three cannas on Monday, last week. They are inside currently, on window sills. Hopfully new crowth can be seen soon! I eagerly wait!

I grow the one in the front of Tistou photo , I call it C. Bengal Tiger . Is there any differnce to pretoria ?

 

As far as I know, all three 'Bengal Tiger', 'Pretoria' and 'Striata' should be the same. Maybe there's some other synonymes.

 

Hey guys I'm growing a few from seed this year from the seed parcel I love the look of the foliage
I have got about ten going they are only a few cm tall so far but can now wait to watch them grow in summer does any one grow the one that looks like I banana plant for got the name but I would like to buy one of them this year I have a banna that I hope has over wintered ok too
