May be a point there Joolz , I split my huge C Tropicanna rhizomes , so they were as big as two fists. All these started in 3 to 7 days. Plus I have four more pieces to give away . The C Bengals split into lots of small rhizomes when I lifted them. The first planting 4 out of 5 started , so that is OK for this year . Planted the other 4 bits , and nuffin' so far ! May be down to my lack of skill in selecting only rhizomes with viable eyes, I find it difficult to tell.

I got the seed from ebay a couple of years ago, just described as Red Canna - it should end up like this with a bit of luck:

All my Cannas are showing now from stored Rhizomes :dbgrtmb: My Canna Red ( not really sure now of its name ) I potted 5 rhizome pieces up and given 4 away . Mowgley even managed to split his piece into 5 ! These all sprouted in 3 to 12 days and are a good 2 feet tall now.
The C Bengal Tiger , I potted 8 pieces of Rhizome. 4 showed shoots within a week . The others I was about to dump , when I emptied the plant pot I saw a good root system. They are now all showing shoots after 3 weeks

30% i have are warscewiczii(thanks kristen x ) plus only 4 of last yrs rhizomes have started to sprout up to now so i have at least 50 non starters(in pots),plus the ones in the ground arnt on the up yet.
Then i have approx 90 from seeds again this yr which is great but given all the plants i have or might have(if they resprout),i will only have approx 30 differant types :)...i want more :spinning:
They are stunning, great growers, lovely flowers and differant foliage types :) xx

I grow cannas in my pond, ones collected from peoples gardens when they have overcrowded Most of my pond is ringed with iris I collected but 25 foot of the edge is cannas. They seem to be OK growing in water up to a foot deep and come back before the land growing ones because the water has kept them from a hard freeze (I think) I really love cannas because of the length of flowering. The Iris are finished pretty quickly - but then their foliage is prettier rising from the water. The cannas get a leaf curl insect which makes the leaf edges ragged and brown. I have put in one variegated leaf and one purple leaf kind but they are just trying to establish. most are red or orange flowers with, I think, some yellow ones.
