The ones I left in the ground are fine, I overwintered on in a pot in the greenhouse and that expired. After turning it out I think I overdid the water retaining gel and it froze or rotted the rhizomes :(

All my generic C Tropicanas ( ground planted ) have been flowering since late June , lovely red flowers , about a month earlier than normal. The C. Bengal Tigers ( container planted ) are bubbling with health and looking 100% no flowers yet though :dbgrtmb:

It was a hard winter for my Canna. I lost Canna altensteinii and Canna x ehemanii. My unknown Canna from seed that was collected in Thailand survived though as did Canna paniculata.............

Talking of Canna paniculata here is a self seeder..............

Makes me wonder if a spell in the freezer might be easier than scarifying?

Cant remember the species of Canna it was now, must have been nearly ten years ago I grew it and it seeded very freely as the species plants tend to.
For the last three years I have found seedlings on my allotment, potted one up this year around May.
Just shows how resilient seed actually is and how it can lie dormant, waiting for the right time.
