I've had a closer look and there were 4 stalks. I am happy to stick it one big pot next year. It will be good to determine it's growth habit before I decide what to do with it.

Is it time to fetch my cannas in? This is the first time growing cannas this year, I have one in flower(red velvet) and another starting to flower (singapore girl) and the other 3 haven't flowered.

I let the first frost kill off the top growth, then tidy up the blackened leaves and bring them into a heated greenhouse at 5C minimum over winter. I keep them in the pots as they mustn't dry completely out - but also must not be kept in soggy compost. They will take lower temperatures than 5C, I have a few I leave in the ground over winter, but they take much longer to start growing again in the spring.

Where are you planning to bring them in to?

Mazambo, treat cannas as you would dahlias :)
They are hardier than many think.....
Down here in west cornwall cannas remain in the ground over winter; potted cannas too are fine.
Wet and cold are a bad combination ....if kept on the dry side cannas will cope much better:)

Have to disagree a bit here. Dahlia tubers get lifted and dry whereas Cannas need some moisture. If you're leaving in the ground however then a good protective mulch for both

It does depend somewhat on the size of the tubers as to how dry they should be kept over winter. Here they are large (pots) to huge (in the open ground).
If in doubt, experiment a little re moisture :)

I have to disagree about Dahlia tubers. Back when I grew them they just stayed in the ground and multiplied, even over the winter of 2010/11. Drainage is the key to winter survival.

              Back to Canna :)

I am lifting my Cannas this weekend . The frost last week has blackened the leaves. I clean off most , not all , the earth. Then they are stored in trugs and covered with dampish compost over winter. I plant them up in the famous £1 buckets in early March, and keep them in the house until April when they move out to the GH.

                          Two problems there..
                          1 - far to tidy !
                          2 - far to clean !
That looks perfect storage , I just dump mine in a trug .
You can come and organise my greenhouse next week - just 10 junctions up the M6 :snorky:
