Steve R has some netting-covered hoops that he uses to keep cabbage white butterfly off his Brassicas ... dunno if that might provide inspiration for a polythene covered cloche type structure?

I saw that on another thread somewhere, and to be honest they were partly what made me look at the poly again to see if I could recycle some of it. Once I have the new greenhouse settled into position, I'll be able to dismantle the poly and start playing with it to see what works and what doesn't

Does the old one have a second-hand value on eBay maybe? (just as an alternative "Exit Route" ...

... "Just needs a new cover for £4.99" - although maybe that gives the game away rather :heehee:

To be honest, I couldn't live with myself for foisting it upon some unsuspecting soul; the idea of them is great, but the reality has been considerably different for me, and apparently the type that I have seems to be fairly notorious for knackered zips.

It would also be quite nice to be able to turn it into something useful, given that it was a gift from my mum that she obviously put thought into?

I rather thought you might say that :blue thumb:

However, it might have a genuine use to someone else - you could advertise it as "completely useless" :heehee: but I expect you'll still get offers.

IMHO the best use of them is inside another structure (large greenhouse or conservatory) for overwintering and small-area winter heating containment. But even then, and with the most careful handling, the zips still go phutt :(

One of the polytunnel manufacturers has a video of a small tunnel (well, more a Big Cloche) inside one of theirs, and using Tee-lights to keep it frost free in winter.

Given some of the things that I have seen being sold on ebay (and actually attracting bids), I wouldn't be surprised if someone didn't offer something. I'll wait and see once I get the new greenhouse up, and if there is nothing sensible looking possible then I'll either freecycle it or similar - worst case, the local tip is only five mins up the road :snork:
