:snork: I'll bear that in mind!

Minx caught her first mouse today (well first as far as I know) so keeps looking at me with her Mighty Hunter face.

Zigs, my idiot cat, Monster, HUNTS frogs. Seriously he goes around looking for them. If he gets one and you try and get it off him he just bails over the fence. Makes me want to chuck him in the pond sometimes.

I didn't say the other day but when I was growing up we had a white cat who went through a spell of catching frogs, she would bite one leg off and then just watch them for a while as if she was conducting a very interesting experiment.

Ugh........ I rescue them when possible. I've not noticed him going after them much this year.

My cat. Jenny, brought in a Frog from the garden a couple of months ago. She actually brought it into the Lounge and sat in front of me with a mouthful of limp frog. When she saw I wasn't pleased she headed for the garden, with me following in hot pursuit, and dropped it on the lawn, where it hopped off into the borders unharmed.:snork: I have two cats and neither of them touch birds, or the like, so I think Jenny was just curious as to what it was as she had never seen a Frog before. Now she'll sit by the pond and totally ignore them:heehee:

I have a half whisky barrel in which I tried to make into a water feature, the water went a disgusting dark colour and there are millions (zillions, even) of teeny tadpole like creatures squiggling around in it.. The water lily I put in it has not flowered but produced quite a lot of leaves, I also put frogbit and water soldiers in along with water snails, but to no avail. they all died. even the shubunkin I had in it too. Any ideas?

Im lucky enough to have a son who, in the course of his job, visits distilleries, and he got me two half barrels, I have one filled with plants and the other was supposed to be for a water lily,

Sorry for the delay replying (and for being off topic)! Don't get me wrong, we didn't let the white cat just catch frogs, she'd just suddenly turn up in the kitchen with one. We'd rescue them if we could! Apparently there have been some frogs in the gardens around here recently - I've yet to see any myself but the neighbourhood cats were greatly excited the other night in our front garden! I thought they must have found a mouse but the next morning the neighbours said it was frogs!

                  Lovely image!
:) Cats are very good at ignoring things when they want to, aren't they? And that gives me hope that maybe I could have a little water barrel after all! Would still like to see how Minx would react to a frog first though, like I said before don't want to encourage them only for them to be the cat's latest toy.

Update....well so far my 'bucket' is coming through the winter perfectly and completely unscathed with no protection, in fact the dwarf iris has a lovely fresh green shoot on it that's now some 4-5" above water!!

I think it will be fine even if we get a cold spell, it would take some pretty cold temperatures to damage anything in the bucket which is almost 2ft deep :)

That's good to hear, Bilbo, although I would take precautions should you get warnings of a Big Freeze, otherwise you could end up with a big ice lolly.:snork:

Now that spring has well and truely sprung my bucket is springing into life, the water lily is producing its first leaves, the frogbit has popped up all of a sudden over the last couple of days and there's fresh growth on the milfoil :)
