Thanks guys, that's exactly the sort of information I was looking for:love30::thumbsup::snorky:

Hmm, I can understand why you would use plastic bags, Sirius, but I might try another way around to supply the humidity need. It sounds like the Highland variety might be the way to go if I take the decision to give Nepenthes a try. I like challenges and keeping my brain, for what it's worth, active with different interests so I will probably give them a go. I've just bought the soft cover book of"Carnivorous Plants of the World" by James and Patricia Pietropaolo to give me a base of facts and knowledge to start from..........so a mug of Tea and a good read is in the offing.:coffee::snorky:

Start with N. alata @ARMANDII , would be my suggestion.
May not be as weird as some but I grew that one for more than a couple of years, even as a house plant, and in a cool greenhouse, I found it quite easy.
Some of the others are more of a challenge.

You know me, pete, I'm weirder than any plant I grow:rolleyespink: so I'm not worried about N.alata not being weird. I'll have to wait until next week as my House is in chaos because of a change of furniture, a new carpet for the Lounge, stairs, and bedrooms. That will also mean I'll be "off the air" for a couple nights, which will give everyone a bit of peace and quiet.:heehee: That won't stop me having a browse now at N.alata to get an idea of it. Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated.:love30::snorky:

I had a huge carnivorous plant collection at one point
Must have had over 100 Nepenthes

The lower pitchers are usually a lot more decorative than the upper ones.

Another good species to try is N ventricosa

Not tropical but these oblong leaved Sundew are struggling in the very dry ground on the heath.

I used to just put some sphagnum moss peat in a pot and water it.
Often sundews would come up, along with heathers.

Well, I've made my choice of Nepenthes and bought N.Bloody Mary, N.Glabratta, N.Hookerinaa.
They're now in plastic hanging pots and hanging in the Kitchen South facing window.:snorky:
