And what is in Monty Don's bag as he tries to be a latter day Roy Lancaster? Would rather listen to Mr Lancaster any day and his wonderful book on China was great.

All the names of Gardeners World thrown up and no one mention the best, Geoff Hamilton, the greatest gardener with the common touch, love of plants and down to earth attitude, Geoff for Sainthood and a rerun of all his TV series on the BBC. Apparently on one of the Sky channels they're showing his ornamental kitchen garden series at the moment. Luckily my birthday next month and I'll be getting his DVD with 3 series on [IMG]

I vote Carol as well, I always find it funny when Monty shows you something and then walks off and leaves the young woman to finish off, he must of got bored!!

Geoffry Smith was that bloke from Yorkshire that always started his programme with brass band music, probably the "brighouse and rastric brass band" :D

I think he was also on "Gardeners Question Time" on the radio, and had a page in "Garden News" magazine.

Dont know if he's still with us.

The thing about presenters is that if they are interesting and put the subject over well you remember all the names and sequences. Therefore Alan T, Carol K, Geoffrey S, stand out because whatever they presented it was easy to listen to and you didn't feel rushed or trying to remember items.

    Regards

I add my vote for Carol Klein. She is the female equivalent of Geoff Hamilton for me. She is so enthusiastic and gets over great tips in a knowledgeable yet interesting fashion. I am intending soon to visit her plant nursery in North Devon for the first time sometime soon. I'll let you all know what it is like if you haven't been yet.

She is a lady who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty, she gives good advice for the thrifty gardener who doesn't have too much money and she smiles and spills over with passion for the subject. Her enjoyment is very infectious.

BBC should elevate her status for sure, although I have a soft spot for Monty, but he just doesn't convey the same spark of excitement GW needs.

Carol should also be given a promotion for having the funkiest hairdo on telly too!

I wonder if we could have a poll on here, would be interesting to see who likes the substance of Carol against the style of Monty, or does that sound like I've already cast my vote ;) :D
