Regarding reliability, I thought this may be of interest to you all. The figures are faults recorded per 100 cars sold on the Swedish market. Not at all as expected.

some of their models have bad problems especially the IYGO why anyone would buy a three cylinder car is beyond me. my mother had one, new clutch at 6000 miles new upgraded clutch at 13000 miles 13" to 15" got rid of it at 20000 miles due run out of clutch adjustment.
to be fair it is made by citroen/Peugeot.

I'm surprised to see Hyundai & Kia so far down on that list @Sandy Ground, but not at all surprised by Ford's showing.

@sandymac - that is the problem when a manufacturer goes into bed others, they instantly inherit some of the reliability/build quality traits of that other manufacturer; the Nissan/Mitsubishi/Renault 'alliance' for example is only really benefiting Renault - quality and reliability has slipped for both Mitsubishi and Nissan.

And as for Mercedes Benz also sucking from that same alliance, well for me they have seriously devalued their brand. It is clear they are now only chasing volume, and are not interested in being a true premium marque as they once were.

Agreed I buy Mercedes but am carful to buy ones that are built in Germany not the states or South Africa and never anything with a Renault engine.
Land rover same gear as Jaguar totally unreliable. the one I had new car new body new ingenium engine same old land rover jaguar electrical problems. Rouge alarms , flat battery, control screen black outs, unable to turn off seat heating, unable to turn off radio or even turn down volume.
false read outs resulting in car going into creep mode no more than 30mph.
unable to start engine to name a few faults. Not surprized to see jeep way down start with a heap of crap then sell it to Fiat and make it in Italy
          regards sandy

My Mini has a super little 1.5 three cylinder twin turbo engine, I was sceptical at first having previously owned the more conventional 'S' but after a test drive I was sold.

Mine has the Renault 1.5 DCi engine, and to be fair to it (so far) it has been OK - but then, it has only just clicked over 25k; the electronics are already showing their French DNA, and the designers put the brake calipers on the wrong side, so the pads lift in the calipers as the disc spins through resulting in a knock from the rear when they fall back into place (nothing wrong as such, but bloomin' annoying).

And yes - FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) should be banned from making anything until they learn about product quality and customer service

I'm very surprised to see those American makes (Buick, GMC, Chevvy etc) so high up @Sandy Ground, I wonder what the sample size is? They can't sell many Lincolns in Sweden surely?

Here is a similar UK survey, "it measures problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of vehicles in the UK after 12-36 months of ownership." :

                2017 UK Vehicle Dependability Study

No American car makes in the UK survey (forgetting about Ford & Vauxhall as they are made over here).

That is also very interesting, with a few surprises - - BMW being bottom for a start! Quite surprised to see Volvo so high up, and Peugeot being up there (and so close to Toyota); Honda being so low is another - what on earth has happened to them?

Although the list is for new cars, Swedes love their american ones, especially when it comes to the classics. The only manufacturer that is sold here and not on the list is Jaguar. Too few were sold for the statistics for them to be deemed accurate.

As a point of interest, what is supposedly the biggest meeting for classic american cars is held here, not in the US. Its so big the US Embassy actually have representatives attend!

You do see a lot at the side of the road these days with bonnets up - same goes for Audi. Like Mercedes they are chasing volume rather than quality.

Not that big a surprise to me. I'd wager that 75% of the vehicles sold that are above industry average will be company/fleet vehicles and as such their drivers don't really give a toss as long as it starts and gets to the other end. The fleet sector makes up a huge proportion of new car sales in the UK.

Ach, I am a big enough petrolhead to understand that people like cars that I wouldn't.

Despite my aversion to French motors, I would love to have a Citroen CX, XM or DS as a classic - - classic cars are more easy to forgive when they go wrong. :snorky:

Loved my old 5 turbo, had more 205 gti's than I care to remember but the 306 turbo d that I still have is probably the best froggy car I've owned. Not as fast engine wise as modern stuff but as it is so much lighter and of the old school Peugeot chassis philosophy it still runs rings around the modern stuff across country. Best of all, it always starts, never costs much to get through the MOT, doesn't rot and service parts are super cheap. At 270000 miles the 3rd gear sychro was weak so the other week I replaced that - it took me three hours in total and cost me a tenner in parts and oil (I had a choice of several secondhand synchros on my shelf of 306 bits).
