Particularly if you get them to poo in someone else's garden :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

So I've had a good read through this thread after getting fed up of cleaning cat poop up or going over it accidently with the lawnmower (although most of it is off topic and complete waffle in relation to repellents!).

I'm going to go for the Catapult Animal Repellent spray due to it containing the aluminium ammonium sulphate. I looked at the Scat-a-cat pellets they do but they are the garlic based ones.

Vitax Stay Off Ready To Use spray looks very similar too.

The cheese grater and citronella candle idea was not something I fancied doing!!

The best deterrent we had was the cat that adopted us and lived in our greenhouse. He kept all other cats out as well as dogs, foxes, squirrels and badgers. He only allowed birds and looked after them with a passion, never killing them except for the hawks that went after the birds. He even let the baby pheasants play with him. :dbgrtmb:

Wonderful; thank you. One of mine used to try to play with the resident pine marten. Who did not know what to make of that.

Our cat protected all the birds and we have a lot of stories about him. His motto seemed to be 'Two legs good, four legs bad'.

What works for us most of the time, is to use some fine mesh black netting laid on top of the soil and pegged down, cutting slits in it to go over existing plants or to allow new ones to come through.

Has worked well for several years and once the plants are growing you do not really see the netting.

Also for areas difficult to net, treading the soil down so creating a hard surface makes them look elsewhere for softer soil.

The other effective method are the PIR water sprayers, they soon learn the gardens out of bounds.

I'm lucky as I have good neighbours and they, years ago, let me erect a 3' high by 6' long frame of slack Chicken wire on top of and along my 6' high fences. At the time I had two Cats with one in particular always trying to climb onto the Garage roof which meant me when returning from work to climb a ladder in my Suit to get her down. I put those frames on the fences to keep my Cats in and stop them from becoming run over as had happened to previous Cats that we had. But, one unrealised bonus when I built the frames was that they have also kept Cats out due to the fact that when a Cat jumps onto the frame the slack Chicken wire makes the Cat go backwards and they can't hang on and so fall off and that works the same for my Cats. There is only one other access point to my garden and that is a 7' tall wooden garden gate/door which no Cat has ever jumped over.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
